Need some help again

OK some help me make sense of this , The end of the month I am hauling an empty UHaul trailer to NY from south TX and I was thinking about putting it in Eco and see what happens but I am think this as soon as I plug in the trailer it automatically goes into trailer mode is this correct ? TY

I would not use ECO mode. It keeps the truck searching for the optimal gear, taxing the Transmission.

You should be able to turn the knob and set it to Std, Towing, Etc once the trailer is plugged in.

Yes when you plug in it will detect the trailer then you’ll need to set the parameters for that trailer. Guess my question is why are you hauling an empty U haul trailer toTexas and not renting one in Texas.

It won’t auto-switch to Tow/Haul. You have to manually select the driving mode. Don’t tow in ECO. It will be all over the place. I’d just keep it in Normal or Tow/Haul.

^^^ what he said. The truck does not automatically switch to tow haul mode when you plug in a trailer. At least mine never has.

I don’t think Eco makes sense in these trucks. I also didn’t think Eco made sense in my ‘91 Isuzu Impulsa (Asuna Sunfire), my 2011 Ducati 1200 or my girlfriends M650 and M850is. But that’s just me. I’m more of a “Sport” mode guy. In my Ram Tow/haul would lock out top OD so I only used it for heavy towing or agressive braking.


Drive mode doesn’t change when you plug in the trailer. You have to manually change it if you shut it down for extended periods you need to put it back to the correct mode. (it still knows you have a trailer but that’s not related to the drive mode, just back up sensors and some of the other features.) I would imagine you could select Eco. I normally move it to Tow and toggle exhaust brake on. Empty u-haul I would just use normal mode.

I say give it a go but make sure you do an objective test under similar conditions. You’re not going to hurt anything but my guess is you’ll get lower performance for about the same fuel mileage.
