Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 305/70-18

They absolutely suck. I liked them a decade ago. Since then their service and customer service has been in the toilet. Make an appointment for 8AM and maybe they will start working on your vehicle at 10 and be done around 12ish. Need warranty or a flat fixed? Get in line and you’ll be lucky to get looked at by the end of the day. Terrible company that won’t and doesn’t deserve my business anymore.
We are regularly in and out in 30-45 minutes with an appointment, stop by for free air checks, tire rotation every 5,000 miles at no charge, fixed many a flat for us at no charge as well, even if I did not buy the tire there. Here is S.Cal the Discount and America's Tire stores I use are good, but the are in fact always busy. When we have had trailer flats on trips, I have found the local stores we hit to be helpful in addressing our needs.

Lots of good options out there - hope you have a great shop doing your work that is convenient to you!

Discount Tire is an excellent Company - they also own America's tire. They have a great culture and offer great service consistent across their national platform and offer fair prices (matching Tire Rack).

If they choose to adhere to a set of safety standards on what tires they mount, based on vehicle mfg. specs, that is just good business on their part. Why put themselves at risk to sell a set of tires, when they sell millions of sets per year.

I would also say they don't just "adhere" to what the computer tells them, they actually look at what you have and what your trying to spec, it if meets the specs they will install, regardless of make or size. I have used them for many custom applcations and never had any issues getting tires mounted with either Discount or America's Tire.

Here in Colorado it’s hit or miss depending on the management

The closest DT only does what the computer says & never wants to warranty tires

Drive to the next one & if it fits they will mount it as long as it’s safe & they warranty anything that’s legitimate

Amazing how different they are

Finally pulled the trigger on my 3rd set of tires. Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT 305/70-18. These tires are aggressive, quiet, and have a great ride. I am very happy with them after a 3 weeks driving on them. Quieter than the Duratracs, but very aggressive and they track absolutley straight.....I highly recommend! Here are some pics. Got them at a local shop for $385 a tire and they had them in stock the next day after I ordered them. 1900 bucks out the door.View attachment 60665

I did business with Discount Tire for over 30 years. Was good friends with the store manager. He would loan me his car while the did tire install or tire service. After he retired the new people at his old store were worthless! Appointments meant nothing. My last experience was they would not sell me a set of wheels unless they installed them. Said their insurance prevented them from selling wheels as cash & carry. I had used them for my 7 personal vehicles and 10 company vehicles. ten of thousands of dollars in business over that 30 year period...meant nothing to them. I even spoke to a regional VP. He was polite when he said sorry. I started using NTB. They have a mobile service. They will come to you and match Discount tire & Tire Racks pricing. The mobile service is basically free...Now that's service!

I’m doing the exact same and third set of tires as well. This time I’m finally getting new wheels as well. What size and offset did you go with?

Agree 100%. Just did the same tire and size. Local shop and they were willing to mount on stock rims, but cautioned if you air down low advised going to 9” width. Since, I run dedicated winter tires, needed another set of wheels anyways, so went with the Fuel Blitz powder coated in satin black with a +1 offset. Is a little more aggressive than I personally was after, but I think it has more to due with the aggressive sidewall of the tire as OP mentioned.

Here are a couple of pics for comparison.

+18 offset 18x9" methods

Two other things I love about these tires: The raised black lettering that says made in the USA and the 50,000 tread life warranty!
