Hitch - Trying Something Different

Bought a 3” B&w with the 7” drop. Really didn’t want one with this much drop but took all the measurements and decided this is the one I needed.

I tried to research a lock and everyone has a video breaking it in two seconds. I decided to go with the 5” grade 8 bolt and nut with a twist. I drilled a 3/16” hole 1” from the head for a hairpin which can only be installed/removed by dropping the spare tire. I know a determined person can still take it but maximizes the amount of time it takes. Probably only works with the tremor because of the size of the spare tire.
I did the same but with a 316 SS bolt then tig welded the nut after some pos helped themselves to my last hitch from the front of a busy restaurant and just left me a broken lock on the ground. I used this method after that ant it took me about 5-7 minutes with a cordless Grinder and metabo disc to cut it off when I traded that truck. I have the 3 ball B&W so in theory I never need to take it off

How often do you really use your hitch? I just take mine off when not in use. When I'm at home, mine's in the garage, all safe & cozy. Can't steal it if it's not there. If camping, I would leave it in the trailer when out & about.

I leave my hitch on even when not towing to better protect if I get rear-ended.

Just watched a video of a guy picking that lock in 91 seconds. That is not good.

PacLock’s “Universal Cylinder” Hitch Pin Locks Picked

I seen a video on that as well.
