I would wager that this new 8.3L will make similar numbers to the 6.7 HO, maybe 5% more HP and 8% to 10% on the torque side just so GM can claim the title for a few months until Ford releases their new powerplant. The main driver for this was the increased emissions starting in 2027. The current 6.6L Duramax wouldn't be able to make them without actually reducing power. In the 8.3L, the boost will be dropped as I would expect too the compression ratio in order to keep the temps down. The bad part of this is that I suspect that the 8.3L will also utilize the EGR more instead of less as the new emissions standards are pretty steep.

Now, Ford will answer this, but I am not sure exactly how. I expect that Ford will not increase the displacement because they are not looking to just 1 up or go tit for tat, but rather be revolutionary and introduce a Hybrid ICE setup. They all but admitted they were going to do this around 2028 which coincides well with GM as they most likely knew GM was going this route. The unknown is whether it would be gas or diesel. The fact that GM actually released the 8.3L makes me very happy because that, in my mind, increases the likelihood now that Ford will make their answer a hybrid diesel electric. If they do that, it would be a game changer, and I would absolutely jump at the chance to get one. This one is Ford's to win or lose! Farley will either prove he knows what he is doing or prove that comedy and jokes run deep in his family.
