Help me decide: Airbags or Sumo Springs

Not on the first tow but have now done both and works great!
10-4. I asked because I have Timbren on my F-150 which is designed to do the same as the Sumo. I've been pleased with them and when I saw your pics I wondered if the unloaded ride is effected due to the limited space between the Sumo and the axle. I'm considering this for my Tremor if it ever arrives.

I have the same ride unloaded with the 2 spacers, but they go to work sooner and keep the truck more level. I started with 1 to check ride then the 2 and felt unloaded it was the same.

Thanks for the information.

I have a 2020 F250 Tremor XLT with the 7.3 and tow a 28’ 5th wheel toy hauler. The truck tows it fine, I’m sure the diesel would do better, but I don’t tow that often and also use the truck for commuting to work which is only 8 miles from home. I’m considering getting air bags or sumo springs to stiffen up the back end when towing. The truck doesn’t sag too much, almost touches the overload springs. It feels a bit soft and my headlights blind oncoming traffic.

Trailer weighs 10k lbs dry, about 12,500 loaded. Pin weight is 2200lbs.

What are peoples thoughts?

Attached is the door tag from my truck.
Sorry late to this party.......
I have the F350 6.7 but my Rv is a beast 41'6" pin weight 3080 16,800 LBs.

I have the yellow sumo bags with two of the 3 spacers. They are just an 1/8" off the rest empty. Seem to work well. Just put them in and forget it. Done...... I did add the Hellwig rear sway bar kit. It all works great. I have nothing against air bags, in fact I have a bagged car. But the sumo bags are so simple they offer promo codes from time to time and you can get an added discount for them.

Your Tremor will squat with the 2200 lbs but it will make short work of that trailer. Godzilla will pull that no troubles... Much less squat with bags of some sort . Here is the yellow ( they don't stay looking like this) If you look close there're 3 spacers included. I used a thick one and a thin one, If you put all three in the bag is alway in contact with the perch. I guess that would be ok too but I wanted it not touching when unloaded. I can't honestly even tell you why, just thought it would be good not to have it in contact all the time. Its easy enough to add or subtract the spacers.

Curious if you had reasoning for the 1PC yellow sumo's over the blue 2PC 3klb sumo's?

I had air bags on my f150 and have yellow sumo's on my f350. I prefer the sumo's they are much simpler than the bags. They don't affect the unloaded ride quality and are simple to install.

I use Torklift stabil loads on my Dually carrying a heavy camper. The newer models can be deactivated when not towing.
I watched a couple of youtube videos on Torkilft. How do you like them? I can see some pros (disable when non needed) and cons (looks like you crawl under the truck to enable/disable).

Great question, I liked the ease of the single piece and the yellow are the heaviest single units. It is enough to help get my RV towed, but there is a bit of squat when I am loaded up.
there is a slight crown on my driveway right where it is parked you can see that if you look at the grass line. so its not perfect flat right there.

Think that the sumo springs will be helpful with a 7,660 max GVWR (pin weight 800-1150lbs), another 1000lbs of gear and accessories in the bed, and 600 lbs of humans and furrry friends (Total 2,400-2,750lbs) of payload?
I absolutely think itll help. As i personally pull a 35ft bumper pull. 1550lb pin weight. along with people and gear as well.

Depending on what else your doing, it might be worthwhile to pick up a sway bar as well to help keep everything nice and tight.

The folks at Host Campers recommended them and they do their job well. Mine are 2019 vintage. Just got back from a 5 day stay at Dover racetrack and the drive from Philly is always exciting navigating the moonscapes of Rt 95/ 495

If your going to add air bags, you could also add a set of carli deaver springs to the rear at the same time. Then it would ride like a cadillac empty and tow level when loaded. Best of both worlds.
i dont tow much so i didnt add the air bags,,but the rear springs are lifechanging
Can you install just deaver springs without doing a front lift? I don't tow anything heavy too often so I'd like to add the Deavers now and then assess the need to add Sumo/Timbren bump stops or airbags at a later date.

I also don't think my truck will clear my parking garage with any added lift, which is the reason I haven't done the Carli Commuter Series setup nor moved to 37" tires :|

I’ve not really looked into airbags. I have Sumos on my 6.7. Blue up front, yellow out back. They were pretty inexpensive iirc and the install was super easy. Might be worth a shot first just due to that?

The deaver springs I installed didnt change the rear height at all that I could tell. I drove the truck with a pintop level up front waiting for the rear springs and truck seemed the same before and after as far as rear height. Rides a lot better now, but definitely squats with a little weight.

What would I search for just the rear kit for a 2022 Diesel? Everything I'm seeing is either by individual components or as a full front/rear package.

I’m running the yellow Sumo springs and have been very happy with them and my trailer/payload setup. Easy to install, then forget about them. If you don’t NEED the bags and the Sumo’s will do what you need .. why not save some money and hassle?

ReadyAIR air bags installed and I’m extremely impressed with how they perform. If you’ve taken a look at their website and seen the comparison animation it’s very accurate to real world.
I run a 1800lb camper fulltime with the occasional cargo or utility trailer in tow and have the bags filled between 25-40psi depending on the set up.

Got the valves hidden away beside the gas cap for ease of filling up and keeping them clean from debris and ice.

Same for me - I did 3.5" Carli E-Venture and added Deavers - my rear end height is same as it was stock.
