Decided to do firmware updates via FDRS have newest version 49.5.12.

Got a few updates taken care of but RCM & APIM error out.

Not sure if these are major. Any help would be appreciated.

Were those codes triggered during the other updates or only upon attempting to update those modules?

Only these

I assume you tried clearing them and they either stay or come right back?

Hello my fellow Sin Citian, looking at your pic neither of these are major hardware failures. They are very common communication and configuration hiccups that happen when pushing updates through FDRS.

RCM U0415 (Invalid Data from ABS): This is a standard communication U-code. When modules update, they reboot and temporarily drop off the vehicle's network. The RCM is throwing this code because it briefly lost data from the ABS module during the flash. Just click the Clear & Retest button at the top of your screen. This code almost always vanishes once all modules are fully rebooted and communicating again.

APIM U2101 (Configuration Incompatible): This indicates that the APIM's configuration data (As-Built) didn't fully load or mismatched during the update.

Switch to the Toolbox tab at the top of the FDRS screen.

Run the APIM Configuration application. This forces FDRS to pull the factory As-Built data from Ford's servers and reload it into the module.

If that configuration step fails, run a PMI (Programmable Module Installation) on the APIM instead.

Run the APIM config, clear the DTCs, run another Self Test, and verify both modules show as passed.

Hope this helps. See you at the strip club sometime soon 🤪.

Yeah I tried to reset to default using PMI on both same results. I had my battery tender running the whole time and never got below 12.6v

The APIM saga continues. What is the current software version on your APIM? Specifically, looking to see the first three numbers such as 22156 or 23422. As for the Restraints Control Module error, it is receiving invalid data from the ABS Module. Which module did you PMI? Also, when you ran the PMI tool did you tell it that you had the original module installed or select no?

If PMI did not clear the APIM and RCM errors, the network likely needs a hard reboot or there is a dependency issue with the ABS. Try these steps to isolate and clear the errors:

Check the ABS Module

FDRS Toolbox
The RCM code (U0415) specifically points to invalid data from the ABS. Open FDRS and check if the ABS module has a pending update or a stuck DTC. Run an ABS Self-Test, clear any codes there, and then try clearing the RCM again. The RCM will not clear if the ABS is in a suspended state. Verify this worked by running another RCM Self-Test to see if U0415 is gone.

Perform a Hard Battery Reset
15 minutes

Sometimes modules get stuck in a bootloop state and FDRS cannot force them to reset via software. Disconnect the negative battery terminal (or both, if his 7.3 is optioned with the dual batteries) for 15 minutes. Reconnect, turn the ignition on, and run a fresh Network Test in FDRS. Verify success by checking if the U-codes have changed from "Current" to "History."

Verify APIM USB Phase
FDRS APIM Update

APIM updates often require a two-part process: a CAN bus flash and a USB drive flash. If FDRS prompted for a USB drive to finish the APIM update and that step was skipped, interrupted, or failed, the module will remain in a U2101 incompatible state. Ensure no USB prompts are pending in the FDRS update log.

Got the RCM fixed. It is now updated. APIM and I forgot that the IPMB gives me a java error and fails also.

Current APIM version is 25213 at least I assume that is it SYNC 4 software version?

I tried both ways yes and no on new module.

Guess time to try disconnecting batteries. I'll try that tomorrow when I get home from work.

Thanks for the help guys.

I did get the GWM programmed via USB.

The IPMB Java error is a known bug in FDRS, usually caused by a memory leak (Java Heap Space) or a corrupted file download. The APIM failing on both PMI prompts usually means FDRS has cached a corrupted As-Built file for the truck.

Restart and Run as Admin
FDRS Memory

Completely restart the laptop to clear the system RAM. When Windows boots back up, do not open Chrome or any background apps. Right-click the FDRS icon and select Run as Administrator. Attempt the IPMB update first. Verify this worked if the IPMB flash initiates without the Java exception pop-up.

Clear the FDRS Cache
File Explorer

Close FDRS. Open the Windows file explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\Ford Motor Company\FDRS\ (you may need to check "View Hidden Files" in Windows to see the ProgramData folder). Delete everything inside the Sessions folder. This forces FDRS to download a completely fresh As-Built file from Ford's servers. Verify this worked if FDRS shows a downloading progress bar during the next APIM PMI attempt.

Load APIM As-Built Manually
FDRS APIM

If the automated PMI still fails, open the Toolbox, click APIM, and select As-Built Configuration. Enter the factory hex data manually. You can pull the factory As-Built data for your VIN directly from the Motorcraft Service As-Built website. Verify success by running an APIM Self-Test to confirm the U2101 code has moved to History.

Looks like you've dealt with this shit a few times

Honestly, I'm just asking the Autobot Interface. But if this actually fixes your truck, I'm officially buying some new upgrades and billing your account as a consultation fee 🤪.

The version is a good sign as you are above the version that stalls certain module updates. I was not aware of the known java bug so I will have to see what I can find in PTS. Good job on getting the RCM updated! A lot of times with FDRS, it is perseverance and just working through the nuances of it. Even though FDRS can be a PITA, it is loads better than FJDS/IDS. I've never bricked a module with FDRS, that is NOT the case with FJDS.
