2020 Platty 6.7 Tremor
My 15yo will be driving in a year. So we are tossing the idea around of turning a used regular cab work truck to turn in to scaled down version of my tremor. He loves my 2020, hah dream on bud.

Seems like i should be able to pick up a 6.2 regular cab in the 2015 range. Clean it up, make it cool and be a fun first car project and teaching moment. He will have skin in the game but want to help him out and get him in something safe. Love the idea of 2 passengers max: single cab.

I had a 2016 quad cab with the 6.2. It was a bit of a dog, but ran great and was super reliable. Researching it, sounds like the 6.2s are pretty bullet proof. Any suggestions or other things to keep in mind?

Here's my tremor, then proposed starting point and general idea of what we are thinking... Thanks!

Great project! 6.2 has had some issues over the years but nothing major. All in all it's a pretty robust engine. I would just look for any signs of oil leaks.

Just going to throw out another option. The F150 went to the aluminum body in 2015. You could look for a regular cab 5.0L and have a lighter body that more closely matches your truck:

Hey Thanks! Not a bad idea, have been looking at those too. The long bed f150s are kinda odd proportionally to me. Short bed 4x4s are pricey and super hard to find. Aluminum body seems like a big plus for no rust and weight though.

Please get a yankum rope and show pic of this truck towing a Chevy 🫩🫩😀

It’s hard to find any regular cab truck above the XL/ work truck level anymore. I bought my son a 2015 F150 XLT 5.0 and we did some project work. He swapped the exhaust and did almost all the leveling on his own.

F150 will be a lot more forgiving on parts etc if you're planning a build path... anything 2015 onward with the ecoboost or 5.0L will have tones of after market goodies to dig into long before it puts a major dent in you or your son's wallet!

I'd suggest having a go at that idea unless your son is determined on the big truck diesel etc. Idea...

Here's a Pic of my 2020 F150, they are nice 👍 especially for a new driver! Much easier to maneuver and can become monsters with the right build/tunes...

Tell me a 16 year old wouldn't go nuts over that? Haha

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion... but at 16...give me a tough looking single cab 250 anyday over your f150.

As a dad, fast and the ability to haul tons of other kids around are not on my bingo card.

Agreed. I wanted the same thing but wasn’t going to get an XL. I’ll enjoy watching y’all’s progress.

His silver crew is clean looking, you all did that one justice!

my first vehicle was a 1990 manual F250 longbox. Great truck. Terrible first vehicle.

As also a dad... if you're doing a build with him... regular cab longbox screams go for a rip and do burnouts and donuts or hit some mud with your buddies. At least anywhere that isn't inner city... and for the record they all go fast after around the year 1980 lol. Depends who's behind the wheel and sometimes a little power scares the stupid out of an inexperienced driver too but I digress (and with all due respect 🙏 🫡)

You're right though, everyone has their opinions 🤷 just sharing mine! Good luck with it all, should be a good time/build even if you buy him a beater.
