I was ready to order a custom built Tremor when I found one for sale in Austin Texas. The only thing that it did not have was the dual battery set up. One of the main reasons that I ordered the tremor was that I love the idea of the integrated winch.

I just looked at the Ford warn winch on the website and it appears that the part requires a dual battery set up. Does anyone know if the dealership will still install the winch with a single battery set up? At 45 years of age I should learn that Patience is a virtue, but seldomly do I act in accordance.

Can you operate a wench? If so then start wrenching!

My dealership would not install it unless it "qualified' by having the dual batteries and 397 alt. option. It did so they got the part and did the install.

You could order the winch kit from parts and find somebody to do the install

then if you have the adaptive cruise control take it back to the dealership for them to re calibrate it.

UNLESS the parts guy is a DICK and wants your Vin that shows the "qualifications"

I don’t trust my mechanical ability. I would equate them to that of a mentally challenged chimpanzee.
I'll second the buy it and install it yourself comment but this comment is worthy of a response.

Buy it and have it installed. There are a ton of shops in OC that can do it. Give these guys https://www.rocktechoffroad.com/ a call. Chris is cool, they've always done good work, and they can think.

Good to know and I appreciate the referral. I need someone that can use their head and get it done correctly.

Just means you will need to have the truck running when using the winch. I wouldn't use mine without it running even with two batteries. You may need to increase the size of your alternator though.

Any more insight on this? What size does the alternator need to be for the winch?

I believe the winch package automatically raises you to a 397amps. Don't know if you need that much sense you will only have one battery but it won't anything to have extra capacity.

Some thoughts to consider about running the winch on a single battery or smaller alternator. Amperage draw is all about how much weight you will be pulling. Often you are no where near capacity.

A 12k winch at full pull will draw about 470 amps and a truck weight 8k lbs pull will draw 335 amps. In theory you could make a winch turn no load with a 9v battery.

Batteries are just a reservoir for amps over time. Two batteries will allow you to pull a full load longer. With the vehicle running and a large alternator the batteries are charged back faster during use.

Not having any of that is fine. You will only run into problems using the winch for long periods and high loads. That being said adding the second battery is pretty easy to do. Tons of after market parts out there. The extra alternator size is not as easy. Super duty uses 2 alternators to get up to 397amps. May be easy enough to add the second one but the wiring and any programing or changes I would be unsure of.
