Changed fuel filters on my 2022 F-350 Tremor the other day and saw the infamous glitter in the fuel-water separator pan.

Not a lot, maybe 3 or 4 shiny specs.

So, the disassembly of the engine bay came next and I found sparkly glitter everywhere, including in the CP4. Not in large volumes, but it doesn't take much. Once it's in there, it all has to go. Even if it's just a few super small flakes.

Rough guess - something like $7k in parts later, including a DCR, I'm wishing I'd bought that DCR years ago. It was always planned, but out of pure laziness, I hadn't.

By the mileage it's obvious we do not use this truck much. It's basically used to tow for recreation and that's it.

So, questions people will wonder is:
- Why didn't you warranty it
A: I don't trust Ford techs, it'd probably be in the shop for months, and I really, really, do not trust the local dealers. Any of them. They all have a bad rep and I've got personal bad experience with them. Factor in the time, stress, dealing with a tow, worry the truck will get damaged sitting on a lot, etc... rather just spend the money, fix it myself, and know it's done right.

- Why did it blow
A: Bad design, period. If you are thinking you will treat your fuel and change your filters and it won't be you -- think hard on that one. This is why I am making this post, really. We bought fuel only from brand fuel stations. Every tank was treated with OptiLube XPD. Ran hotshot for a few tanks early on when I couldn't get XPD. There's never been water found in it, there's no rust anywhere, none of the tell-tale abuse, neglect, or negligence signs are there. It's low miles, but it doesn't sit for months-on-end, either. It's kept in a climate controlled garage - stays between 70 and 73, depending on the season.

- Any fuel system mods
A: No, fuel system was all factory, factory programming, factory parts, factory filters.

-How often were filters changed
A: Annually, same with the oil. Truck has 7k total miles.

As much as a truck can be babied, this truck has probably had the life.

Typical tow load is 10-13k, basically to the campground or the boat ramp.

Does that mean you should jump up and run get a DCR or Disaster Prevention Kit? That's up to you, just telling my story - hope it saves someone the hassle.

Also, I'm not mad - I bought this expecting to do the swap... the whole Scorpion and the Frog kind of thing. Sure, Ford should sell a better pump in their truck... also, I knew it was a scorpion.

Damn. I guess the only good thing is that you caught it before you ended up on the side of the road somewhere.

Could the fact that the truck sits so much have anything to do with this? I’m not trying to stir the pot whatsoever. I’m genuinely curious. Lack of lubricity in the pump housing from sitting? Dried out seals? Breakdown of the fuel itself leading to issues?

Either way, crappy it happened.

This is what I'm thinking. I think it's more miles than maintenance related.
