I've been noticing a higher frequency of GM ads for autonomous towing - super cruise or whatever they call it. Just seems like a bad idea waiting to happen, and probably to the detriment of some innocent bystander/driver.

This popped up in my Google News feed this morning:

Not huge, but not exactly a small or wind resistant cargo trailer. I wonder if there are recommended limits to when this feature can be used?

When its ready, it will probably be better than a human. I'm just not sure these "gen 1" systems are truly "ready"

Put a 30' travel trailer with incorrect tongue weight on it and let me know how it does. :ROFLMAO:

I do find it interesting how much of a push there is to reign in distracted driving... all the while, more and more of these hands free driving "solutions" keep becoming available. I cannot see how removing your hands from the wheel, won't also result in removing your eyes from the road ahead. Just makes it that much easier for folks to bury their faces in instagram, facebook, tic-tok, etc.

While at the same time saying you can't use your phone and drive but here's a 32" touch screen TV with 9000 features to scroll through to try and figure out how to turn on your a/c and change the radio station while you drive.....😆

Give me back my buttons and knobs!

Edit: Give me back my CD player, too!

I've been also seeing an uptick in this marketing. Every time I just shake my had and think this will be disastrous. People are being trained more and more to not drive.

The problem is that more and more people are being trained not to think at all. I am an old guy, but it amazes me that there are folks who would really want “something or someone else” to drive their car or truck for them. Part of driving is the thrill of driving, right? But it’s part and parcel of lots of new trends these days…people not willing or wanting to work, always with their hands out like when they grew up with Mommy and Daddy. Oh well, I’ll just continue to drive my Tremor with hands on wheel and eyes open for these “autonomous” drivers!!

Totally... My phone is much less of a distraction since I use it everyday and am very familiar with the features that I need. The truck is the same way for stuff I use on a regular basis. Those times I'm trying to figure out the less frequent things I've told myself to just leave it until I'm parked.

The younger generation isn’t gonna learn to properly drive with all these features coming out. I do believe they have the potential to be safer, but since they can’t roll out autonomous driving 100% for everyone, it’s gonna breed a generation of drivers with weak to non-existent skill sets and could cause more issues. All vehicles on the road need to be 100% autonomous, or else the true benefit wont really be there. And no way are we anywhere close to being ready for that.

I can't believe they are pushing this either, people have enough problem driving and are encourging them to take hands off the wheel (pay less attention to the missle they are driving down the road) so the truck can drive itself and even better while towing a trailer, love it. False sense of security for all these techie people. The only thing I hope is they only wind up in a tree. guardrail, pole, etc. and not kill anyone.
