2024 f350 Tremor
Im looking for some opinions. Im towing a 32’ TT (700-900 tongue weight) with my 2024 f350 Tremor 7.3. Im struggling to figure out what the best setting is as far as chain tension is concerned. If i crank the chains down to 4-5 complete turns it actually makes the sway worse. Im wondering if its taking to much weight off the tongue. At 4-5 turns the front fender sits at same height as it does with no trailer. Does anyone have similar trailer/truck setup and if so how many turns are you doing? Should i just hand tighten chains and then put maybe 1-2 full turns? Trailer is at dealer right now for warranty so i havnt been able to test that out yet.

At 900 lbs of tongue weight, you probably do not need a WDH at all. How much does the trailer weigh? Maybe you need more tongue weight. Have you weighed the truck empty by any chance on a CAT scale or other that gives separate front and rear axle weights?

Here is a spreadsheet that I generated that might help if you have the unloaded weights:

Too much weight on the rear of the trailer increases sway issues, so less weight distribution should help, but also experiment with the electronic sway control built into the truck. Some people have found it is better to have it off, depending on setup.

Turning off sway control…..Thats interesting. Ill give that a try as well.

The gvwr 10k so id say about 8500 maybe 9000lbs to be safe. I have not weighed it on a scale, but that spread sheet is helpful.

I think that you need more tongue weight. That will help sway more than anything. Can you move the load in the trailer forward? I would shoot for 1100lbs of tongue weight and maybe no WD or just a little.

There isn't much i can shift around, i have a tongue weight scale i can try to add some weight. We just bought a bike rack for the front A frame so that should add some. Thanks for the advice!

The recommendation from Ford is to measure the front fender height before the trailer and then after hooking up, but prior to any weight distribution. The target height with distribution is halfway in between. It sounds to me like you have too much distribution going to the front.
