Andersen Ultimate Hitch vs Reese Goosebox

Picked up our new rig tonight ... have only towed it about 30 miles so far, but the truck pulled it great. Will give some more details on the Goosebox setup, but I went with the 16k Reese Goosebox without seeing anything definitive on using this with a Tremor’s bed height. So far so good. Will post detailed photos after another testing session this weekend, but here’s one for now:

What kind of gooseball did you use? I'm going with the Goosebox too and I'm thinking about the B&W gooseball which adds some lift...

Mateo84 - How did the testing go? I would like to go with a goosebox but I want to know about the cab/front cap and bed rail clearance with your rig. Thanks!

Since you revived this I thought I should add that I went the Anderson route and while it works pretty well and I haven’t busted out my back window I’ve managed to ding up inside of the bedsides with the back of my pin box with the coupler in the forward position. I think if I were to do it again I probably would have gone with a B&W turnover ball hitch and used an offset ball with the goosebox.

I have my coupler spun around and have plenty of clearance to the cap and bed rails. Even when the truck and trailer tipped I can turn as sharp as I want without issue. With the coupler forward I was in the same boat as you with bed rails
Have you tried spinning it?

Not yet, but I’ll give that a try the next time I hitch up. It looks like you can still turn pretty far with it spun around like that. Do you feel like you have to watch it anymore than you did before on turns or have you noticed any other differences?

On the bright side I found the part number for the plastic bed rail cap on Ford parts and its under $200.

At first I did, but now I just ignore it. My 5th wheel nose cap is designed to help too though. It cuts in pretty far

So it's been over a year and no response back from @Mateo84 .. I assume everything is hunky-dory and he's had no issues. Has anyone else run this setup and have complaints? I have every intention of going with the Reese Goose Box. Nothing in the bed and everything heavy gets left on the trailer sounds like a dream come true to me!

Love my GB.

Anymore updates with running a Goose Box on a Tremor short bed? Removing a goose ball seems much easier than trying to lug a 250+ lb 5th wheel hitch in and out of the bed every time you need to use the bed seems like a no brainer. I have yet to see anyone that actually owns the Goose Box with any negative comments about it. Would love to hear some updated feedback on this setup in a Tremor.

The only “negative” I’ve ever heard, if you can even consider it a negative is having to put air in the bag.
For me personally, the Anderson works better, because I can store my truck in front of my 5th wheel in the driveway. My driveway is on a slight incline and when the 5er is unhooked, I can still back in my truck under it. With a goosebox, it would hang down too low and mess up my driveway parking system. Just something to consider

We just purchased a Brinkley Z3100 5th wheel and the manufacturer recommends the Gen-Y Torsion-Flex hitch (GH-8066AL). The Brinkley's use a Lippert chassis, so there is at least one manufacturer that specs them. Gen Y also makes the GoosePuck, a 5" offset ball. Here are the specs from their website.

I love mine and wouldn't go back. If I had to come up with cons it would be hooking up chains in the bed and having to pay attention to the cab with tight turns.

Some people put the hooks on the ends that connect to the pin box to make it easier, and I have never had an issue with needing to turn so tight. Airing up the airbag is non issue. I only adjust it with large temperature swings which is about twice a year.

When buying the GB my biggest concern was the turn radius / cab clearance. After having it a couple years I can say that, at least with my trailer's cap, it is not an issue. (GD Momentum) I can turn sharp enough that I am shoving the front trailer tires sideways... so it's more than I need. Now, if I wasn't paying attention could I hit the cab? Yes. Still have to be attentive. Overall the convenience of having just a removable ball in the bed out weighs everything else for me.

No question Reese Goosebox - gen 3 is the way to go. I have 2022 Tremor - bought a ATC 36' 5th wheel and swapped out the Curt pin for a Reese Goosebox 20k - love it. Combined with the GenY 5" rear offset ball - you have the best of all worlds. Goosebox rides much better than 5th wheel pin, 5" offset of GenY puck system gives added clearance for sharp turning, plenty of bed rail clearance (I am running 1.5" lift and 37's) and Gen Y 5" offset hitch weight about 18 lbs. - in and out in a couple minutes.

You will never go back to 5th wheel after having a Goosebox! I have put a link to the GenY offset hitch on E-Trailer - note the videos in the bottom of link on 2020 and 2022 Superduty waking you through how it works.

This is without the 5" offset that is offered by Gen Y correct? It seems that this setup with that additional offset is the sweet spot! Similar to what supercup has, but i am also considering a momentum and im not sure the imapct the front cap makes on a momentum vs. ATC.

Front cap on the Momentum will be a little more forgiving than the ATC - the ATC goes straight across - with limited taper back at all and has hard points on edges. Momentum sweeps back slightly more and has more rounded edges - both a benefit in adding a little more turn radius.
