Andersen 5th Wheel Hitch - 3220 vs 3217 (Taller)

Thought I should add this in for extra perspective on the height. I’ve got the taller Andersen and with the ball in the mid position I’m running a little nose high with probably 9” or so of bed rail clearance. I’m going to try the lower setting next time around to see if that helps level things out.

Do you have the coupler forward? How’s your turning as far as cab clearance and bed side when it’s turned? Does the pin come anywhere near hitting the rails

The coupler is forward as of now. Just picked up the trailer on Saturday so haven’t had much time to play with it yet and measure turning radius, but from just driving it around and turning in and out of our weekend spot and bringing it back to the dealer for service I haven’t had any issues. It’s at the dealer now getting the refrigerator fixed, but they say I should be getting it back tomorrow so I’ll see if I can do some measurements then.

Awesome. My momentum is in storage for another month or so.

with Your bed rail clearance, you can easily drop it two setting and still be at 7 inches. hope your fridge works soon, enjoyed a warmish trip at the lake last weekend. On another note, I am sure you can turn the Andersen around and keep your turns to 80 degrees, but no need to with the hicap pkg. I feel confident on my tight turns knowing there is no way I am hitting my cab, and truck handles the weight nicely.

Looks like both the standard and high are options. I am torn. Not sure which to get!!!

Just bumping this up. We are picking up our new 5th wheel in 2 weeks. Dealer put us down for the raised 3217 version. Not planning on running a tonneau cover ever.

Just looking for confirmation on which one to get.

I have the taller one and like the extra adjustability. If I’m somewhere I know I’ll be going slow and taking sharp turn on uneven terrain ill put it in the highest setting to get the most bed rail clearance. I don’t think you’d have problems with either though.

Is your camper fairly level when hitched?

I think it’s level enough, it’s still a little nose high in my opinion. I normally tow in the low setting, but with the bedrail clearance I don’t think I could go much lower even if I had more adjustment. Maybe someone with the lower one will chime in on if they can run in anything but the higher setting. I think that’s more of a product of the truck being as tall as it is than anything. My fifth wheel is also already at 13.5 ft tall so I can’t really adjust it higher at the axles to compensate. That’s going to vary a bit from trailer to trailer though.

I have the lower one and my ball is on the lowest setting. Have 6.5 inches of clearance to bed rails. My trailer is a 2019 Jayco eagle. It still is nose high. Obviously the trailer hitch itself could be adjusted but I'm at a safe bed rail clearance and its not egregiously nose high.

Thanks for the insight.

Thanks. My new rig is a Flagstaff “half ton towable” and I’m worried that it’s going to be pretty nose high with the tremor.

here is a pic of the 3220(normal height) in the middle setting, plenty of bed rail space and it doesn’t look like it will interfere with any tonneau cover.

This is the 3320 at the middle height setting. Gives me 6-7 inches of side rail gap, 5-6 inches in the back due to me being nose high a bit. Easily an 1-2 inches under the bed rail for a tonneau cover. Btw, that cheap rubber mat after a full year of towing has prevented scratching, not a single mark from towing.

Thanks. I went ahead and ordered the 3220.

Any updates? it really does look like you could go either way 3220 or 3217.

Which B&W flip over kit works with the OEM puck system in our trucks?

I have the Anderson gooseneck hitch. Its awesome! I have hitch at the middle setting i will probably drop it to the lower position as the nose sits a little high.

It Is awesome, fits in the middle height setting Perfectly. I bought an extra torque wrench and leave it under the seat with the ball.
