Hi all. I recently attempted to insert a USB double power supply in my dash tray to clean up the power cords hanging from the phones when we travel. I made two errors on this project that I will share with you. First, before beginning my project I watched a couple of YouTube videos where the installers said, "take a 1 1/4" hole saw and drill a hole for your plug". I thought, "well heck that is easy and I have a 1 1/4" hole saw." So...I picked my spot and drilled me a beautiful hole. Turns out that even though the USB outlet that I purchased looked just liked theirs...mine required a 1 1/8th" hole. The hole I drilled was way too sloppy. Dang!! (not what I really said). So after some deliberating on the next course of action, I thought I'm a handy guy, I'll just make a bushing. I grabbed a puck of aluminum out of the bin and chucked it up in the lathe and viola a bushing. I spray painted it flat black and thought it looked great. Secondly, the spot where I drilled the hole for the plug... directly under the Bulletproof Mount, guess what? There is a crossmember in the EXACT same spot that interferes with placing anything there. I.E., the tray will not go into place.
Double screwup. If I had drilled a correct size hole closer to the front edge of the tray I would have been golden. But I didn't.
So with that...I offer this little project up for sale. USB outlet with CUSTOM made bushing. $50 shipped to lower 48
