Broken clip on Number Pad [fixed!]

Has anyone had an issue with the clips on the keypad breaking? I rarely use it but noticed it broken on my last trip. I tried taking it in for repair and dealership was so busy they can't get to it for a month.

wow. How does that happen? Almost seems like someone would have had to mess with it. Can the dealership just sell you the part to repair yourself?

No signs of tampering in the image you provided, not sure what the other side of it looks like though.

I've had clips like this break before for no apparent reason, on my previous F150. Went to open the sliding rear window, and the unit just dropped down on one side, the retaining lip just broke off.

Take it back to the dealer, it's only a year old

Modified, did you ever find an easy solution or a part? Mine looks similar today. Coincidentally had the exact happen on a Raptor. Dealer just took care of that one (and probably this one too). Curious…

Mine did the same thing. And a pain to get replaced now. You have to pull the interior panel.

I love the Tremor, but it's exactly little BS like this that you don't have to deal with on a Toyota (in my opinion).

You're definitely not the only people I've seen discuss this problem. Is it UV from the sun, snow scrapers or something else causing these to fatigue/fail I wonder? Someone trying to break in seems pretty unlikely?

Yes, They say they get caught in the car wash, I don't think mine broke that way...

Mine recently broke. The new key pad is about $25 from Ford. The trim ring unclips from the key pad (if done carefully) and you can put the new trim ring from the new key pad on the old switch. Took me 15min to repair with a tiny flat screw driver and a 90deg pick. I have the broken trim ring in my truck, ill get a picture later of the part that I changed.

Changing the entire key pad requires removing the door panel and I wasn't in the mood for that. I wish Ford sold the trim ring separately, even if it was still $25.

While this very specific issue may be unique to Ford trucks because the keypad itself is unique to Ford -- the general 'issues' are not. All manufacturers are scraping the bottom, so to speak, to get parts.

That's auto manufacturers and all the thousands of satellite companies that manufacture the components and components of components -- all the way down to the companies that produce the raw materials.

While you might say you didn't see this type of thing with Toyota -- you really didn't see this kind of thing, at least not to this extent, with Ford pre-2020, either. Well, that's not totally true, they've built some lemons -- so has Toyota, though.

I work for a heavy construction company. We buy equipment that cost several hundred thousand to a million dollars. Even that stuff breaks (with very little hours on them).

But yes, there is still QC issues with these things.

No, I haven't yet. I'm planning on taking it in for an oil change soon and hoping they will take care of it at the same time.

I think there was 2 different part numbers depending on options or years. My part number: FL3Z 14A626 AF

I had that happen on my 2017 and my 2019. You have to replace the keypad and the trim piece. Takes about 15 minutes to replace.

@Skibum1681 - Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I was able to get mine fixed tonight and it took all of 20 minutes! This fix is definitely worth doing yourself instead of waiting on the dealer.

I watched this youtube video first. It provided some tips to ensure getting the trim piece out without breaking it.

This is the side I started with first.

Once I got that side popped out, I push from the front (on the numbers) and was able to get it all the way out.

Too bad Ford doesn't sell this piece!

Eh. They all have their issues...Tacomas were experiencing frame failures and manual transmission issues for a good while not long ago.
My last Toyota (car) got a new short block under warranty around 30k mi, and that was after two TRD superchargers, few ECUs, and several stock catalytic converter failures.
