250 or 350?

"An example of this is towing an RV with your family and the variety of gear that comes along with that in the truck."

@ccw Your are examples are definitely valid but I would add that there is a large overlap between the two use cases unless we are talking about an extremely large travel trailer or 5th wheel (and/or a large family)

A 250 provides ~1300lbs additional payload vs. my F150 that I can utilize which, for me, will be mostly applied to a larger camper (32ft, 7500lb dry). Cargo in the truck will more or less remain equal (including just my wife and I) and I will still end up with a healthy reserve.

The benefit of the Tremor is that I could use all of my 2720lbs and still be confident that I have some reserve, while remaining legal.

An equivalent fifth wheel of the same length, brand, features, etc is in the 2100-2200 pin weight territory and would put me in a 350 from a legal perspective. This would follow your example perfectly.
Completely agree, and good explanation. My examples were quick ones off the top of my head, but the specific circumstances will dictate the actual numbers and, as a result, what's the better model.

Same... I'm in AZ and went with the F250. Also, believe it or not the F250 has a higher resale than a F350 because it's more in demand. Think about how many 3/4 ton trucks you see compared to 1 tons. More people want the F250 thinking the F350 is waaaaayyyyy to much truck for their needs. Not realizing they're basically the same truck. Check out this video, I go over it a little bit here.

Agree with @PapaRaptor . I went 250 because there is no difference in actual capability. I actually changed my order from an F350 non-Tremor to an F250 Tremor because of this (+ I like the way it looks :p ) For my usage I will not need the extra legal payload increase the 350 offers on the door sticker. There are a several threads on towing, legality, and a few states where this may become an issue. For the 7.3L F250 I get a 10k GVWR, 24.9K GCWR (under 26K), 2720lbs payload (my specific truck) and 15k conventional towing. All of this works for my usage, saved me about ~$900 and minimizes any risk of legality. @HottyToddy your needs may differ, but the key point others have made is that the truck has exactly the same hardware F250 vs. F350 with the Tremor designation.

Here is the towing table maintained by @sooo for reference:

A point he has made is that from a CDL perspective you get the most trailer capability with an F250 gas. It all comes down to specific use cases as to what is the best alternative for each person though. It is not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Hope this helps!
Thanks for that link Modman. Showed it to hubby and he said to just stay with what I ordered 💪🏻

Okay, that is SUCH a great video! We live south of you a ways, but our shop is in Tucson. Your wife is intelligent and I love that she’s a part of the video. And, the snake 😆 (🐍 move along, nothing to see here...that’s just like an Arizonan).

I’m only 1/4 the way through the video, and I’ll finish it now. Just wanted to say thanks for the information. I’m a visual-learner so it’s perfect for me. Hubby and I didn’t know that the 250 Tremor came with the overload spring. Stoked.

To answer others, I’ll only be occasionally pulling a 5000# 4-horse bumper-pull trailer with 2-3 mini cows in it. Cows only weigh about 650#-1000# each.

I’d like to get a lightweight cabover camper at some point. Probably a Palominas Backpacker HS or a Scout.

Hubby was glad to see the GVW etc. Now he can pull our toy-hauler with my truck instead of his. His truck is bigger, but for some reason he’s excited about this Tremor😎

@HottyToddy when you see it mentioned that the F250 Tremor and F350 Tremor are the same that is one area - rear leafs - along with the rear axle (Dana M275). We are being literal when we say the hardware on the truck is exactly the same. The only difference is the side emblem and door sticker.

This is really strange. When I ordered my F-250 6.7 Tremor I ordered it with the high capacity trailer tow package and it‘s on my window sticker as HIGH CAP TRLER TOW PCKG PTBA $2785.00. Just for fun I tried to build my truck today and it won’t let me order it with that package. When I try to add it the system only charges me for the 360 camera package. My window sticker also lists a 10800# GVWR package. Any idea why?

The tremor package sets the tow capacity regardless of tow package addons. If you pull up the trailing guide on Ford's site there are specific asteriks for the tremor packaged vehicles.

Ford Trailing Guide keep in mind this is for the 2021 model years. If memory serves there are some some changes for 2022.
