I have a 2027 King Ranch Tremor Gas, quoted by Granger 4% below invoice. I am very close to forking over the down payment, BUT, as a sanity check I compared it to the same packaged Lariat Ultimate Tremor Gas. $7,300 more for the King Ranch! Well, it's a beautiful King Ranch, it's got a lot more "stuff", right?
Unless I'm missing something, the only differences are
1. King Ranch premium Leather (very nice but the Lariat fake leather is nice as well)
2. Massaging seats (cool but I wouldn't miss it)
3. Heated back seat (don't care)
4. Power adjust steering wheel and foot pedals (My current truck has them, I adjusted them once)
5. Two tone paint (really nice)
6. Power tailgate (nice but not needed)
7. King Ranch badges and accents

I'd really be paying $7,300 for the one option I really want, two tone paint. Any opinions or advice on my dilemma? I just need a push.

The Pros of making the jump to King Ranch:

The "Buy Once, Cry Once" Rule: If you plan on keeping this rig for the long haul, staring at a Lariat every day wishing it was two-tone with that King Ranch interior is going to haunt you.

Think about the the interior ambiance too. It's not just "premium leather." The Del Rio leather in the KR is a massive step up in feel, durability, and that legendary smell. Plus, you get real wood accents.

You say you wouldn't miss the massaging seats, but after 8 hours on the highway, they are an absolute game-changer for your lower back.

Then there's resale value. The King Ranch nameplate carries a cult following. You'll likely get a good chunk of that $7,300 back when you eventually sell or trade.

The cons of the King Ranch (Why the Lariat makes sense):

That's serious mod money. $7,300 buys a lot of upgrades. You could get the Lariat, take it to a good vinyl shop to wrap the lower half for that two-tone look for around $1,000, and still have $6,300 left over. That easily pays for a serious lift, 40-inch tires, new wheels, and some custom lighting.

The leather maintenance is something to think about. That beautiful KR leather requires actual upkeep. If you don't clean and condition it regularly, it can dry out. The standard Lariat leather (which is real leather on the seating surfaces, just not ultra-premium) takes abuse a bit better with zero effort.

Diminishing returns is also a reality. The Lariat Ultimate is already a luxury truck. You are paying a huge premium for a few minor electronic conveniences you already said you don't care about.

Here's the push my friend! If your only true sticking point is the two-tone paint, save the $7,300, order the Lariat, and get the bottom wrapped. But if you secretly want the prestige, the unmatched interior feel, and that classic western vibe, just pull the trigger on the King Ranch. At 4% under invoice, you're getting it at a price most people pay for a Lariat anyway!

Used to be most Lariats could get the SAME identical options as the upper trims. The upper trims often include those same options...SO....it usually ends up you are really paying for the interior changes.

I have a 26 Lariat Ultimate 7.3 and I often wish I would have gotten a Platinum w/diesel. And then I remember how much I like money and glad that extra $~20K is still sitting in my bank account so I can waste it on something else one day soon!
 
In '21 I wanted a King Ranch...well you couldn't get KR blackout....so Lariat Ultimate was the path I went. It's been fine. I like to thank Ford for saving me money.
 
So the significant other pushed for the massaging seats (and I admittedly was smitten over the Platinum blue inserts) but I don't care for the massaging feature or care for the back seat heaters. (I would delete the seat or get a Super Cab if that was an option.) I hate the power tailgate, not because it doesn't work, but it's finicky. What happened to a latch?

All that being said, the power tilt is phenomenal. The girlfriend puts the wheel down and I like mine full up or one "click" from up. With the memory steering wheel I don't hit my knee on it every time I get in after she drives it. Is it worth $7,300? doubt it but the massaging seats were a must have for her so it doesn't really matter for me and I would always regret not getting the blue on the inside. If you are a King Ranch guy the leather is pretty nice, I don't care for the colors but that's just a personal preference. I have zero regrets on buying mine (especially from Granger!!) but I also really liked my last less than loaded truck.
 
I just learned that the heated rear seat comes on the Lariat. So that's another item less to count against the $7,300 difference.

1. King Ranch premium Leather, badges and trim
2. Massaging seats
3. Power adjust steering wheel and foot pedals
4. Two tone paint
5. Power tailgate

I could see myself paying...
~$2,000 for the KR Leather, badges and accents
~$1,000 for the massaging seats
~$300 for the power pedals and wheel
~$600 for the power tailgate
~$600 for the two tone paint

That would get me to spend $4,500 and feel semi-comfortable doing it.
That leaves ~$2,800. hmmm, I guess I'd get that $2,800 back down the road in resale.

I went for the super tough fake leather with massaging fold flat seats.

Jumped in with a screwdriver in my back pocket.... scrrrrrape! :( :(

I was so scared to look...

Barely made a mark. thank God.

That said. .. king ranches are awesome trucks, and the fold flat seats are incredible.

One day I'll show you guys how to to deploy them properly. It took me 6 months to figure it out. :LOL:

Just don’t ever sell the 7.3. Resale value is terrible 😑
 
I looked at King Ranch as being the same as those big ass belt buckles you see Texans wearing. What is the purpose?
Get the Lariat Ultimate.
 
Does the KR have a heated steering wheel these days?
