Converting Jump Seat Work Surface to Jump Seat Storage

So I bought a 23 Tremor F350 XLT. Wanted the jump seat, but came with the jump seat with Work Surface.

Most uncomfortable thing ever. Raises the arm rest several inches, and is hard plastic. They don’t even rotate very far anymore, probably safety reasons. They don’t slide very smoothly either. I expect much better from a $70k vehicle.

Wanted to switch it out. 23 SDs share same interior as 21+ F150s/gen14. Parts diagrams are really hard to find yet, so used a F150 diagram. Still spent hours figuring it all out.

I was able to remove the Work Surface with no damage.

It takes 3 major parts: plastic tray/retainer that screws into the metal seat frame and that the cup holders and storage clip into (the one for the work surface is different), cup holders, and storage. You have to buy two rubber mats separate. I ordered a leather storage lid, since the fabric ones get trashed. BA is gray, BB Baja, BC is black.
Ax, is the cloth versions.

Don’t have much to say except that it looks like a good project and congratulations on the nice truck.

Also I’d say sadly 70k is the new 50k. Somewhere in the last couple years that happened. And I say that as the owner of a 2023 XLT gas truck like yours that also stickered at $70,390…. Guess it’s just the times we live in….

Unfortunately it is new normal. Around me used pricing is crazy high, like over MSRP and it’s not even new. The supply is so tight people pay it. If a dealer has 3 new SDs in the lot it’s a good selection.

@antoniodef actually nevermind. Your hyperlink was throwing me off but I see it's just a kink to the part. I'm going to put this order together next week and give it a shot. I really really dislike that work surface, it's a waste to me and my needs. Thanks for this thread, it was exactly what I needed. I bought my 250 on Friday and it only took the drive home to realize it needed to go. Thanks!!!!

No problem.

On the last part number, the BA can be switched up to get cloth, leather, color. BA, BB, BC are three different leathers if I remember correct. And AA, AB, etc are cloth. CA is the work surface.

I ordered in leather since cloth gets dirty. And the black was back order with no ETA at the time.

Last, careful on eBay thinking it’s cheaper. I found some of the parts on eBay for triple list. The black armrest for example was $300+ just because it was on back order probably.

Go slow when taking it all apart, pretty easy but still plastic.

Best upgrade/downgrade ever!

Just take your time taking it apart. It’s one of the easier things I’ve done, especially when you already have new parts and can see how it all comes apart.

You’ll wish you did it the day you bought it once your done! I sure did!

@antoniodef well the dealer wanted my vin before they would fulfill the order and now I'm told none of the part fit my vin which I called BS but they cancelled the order. It's a 2023 F250 so if it fits your 350 it should def fit the 250, they have the same interiors. Frustrating dealing with dealer parts people.

If you gave them your truck VIN, it’s true the computer they use will say the parts won’t work. You need to give them a VIN of a truck that had the jump seat storage from the factory, then they wouldn’t complain.

@antoniodef well shit, I'll find a 2023 for sale that doesn't have that option and use that vin then. They are being difficult, good prices but difficult.

Call Fairway Ford. Guy named Nathan Varga in parts helped me. Once you explain what your doing and you aren’t holding anyone responsible for wrong parts you should be fine.

Or just order them online from Fairway and don’t enter a VIN.

@antoniodef Finally got the parts ordered today after explicitly writing an email that I will not hold them responsible for parts ordered that are not compatible with my vin. They insist it is a "modification" and parts ordered for a modification are the devil apparently. I did tell him they were acting a bit excessively for swapping an armrest. It's not like I am adding a flux capacitor to the damn thing. Geeze, so difficult. The only question I had is I noticed when the workstation is extended there is a dash message that pops up if the veh is in D, does that not pop up when removed? Just checking. And thanks again for your help and this write-up! I'll post some pics once I get it installed, if the parts ever get here after receiving a special blessing from Henry himself to order! Such difficult customer service but a good price compared to list and local so I don't have any shipping. Oh well.... Thanks again!

Good observation on the dash message. Short answer, no it won’t pop up.

Longer answer. There will be a 2 wire harness you unplug for it. I tested this before the swap to see if I needed to jumper it. Opening the workstation closes the circuit and causes the message. Unplugging the harness just leaves it perpetually open, and therefore never triggering the warning. The vehicle side connector will just get squished in the foam inside the back part of the jump seat.

Dismantling is relatively easy. Just start with pulling the little cubbies rubber bottoms out and you’ll see the screws. Once those are removed, it pops up with clips.

Maybe I mentioned it, but the only out of ordinary step is I had to remove the seatbelt from passenger side bottom of jump seat to get the sub assembly tray removed. Don’t let it fully retract, I’ve ready people had trouble getting it back out. I just put a zip tie around mine so it didn’t suck itself all the way in while I worked on the rest.

The plastic cover over the on the passenger side with the leather strap that covers the hinge is kinda delicate, just go slow.

Take some pics as you go. I’m terrible at remembering and really didn’t. Then you can post them here for anyone in the future.

Hello Gary and Antiniodef, I am in the same situation where you were previously in removing my Jump Seat Work Surface. I just purchased a 2023 Ford F-350 XLT FX4 6.7L and would like you to please post the photos of your removal process for the Work Surface. I have removed the Work Surface but now am not able to remove anything else and I am stuck. I've removed the screws from the four cupholders but it seems like the sides of the existing plastic molded cupholders/tray that were under the Work Surface come off but I can't seem to find how to do it! Please see my photos below of the work that I have completed so far. This is a very frustrating project at this point. And yes, my dashboard warning message to "STOW WORK SURFACE BEFORE DRIVING" keeps popping up. Any help is most appreciated. Thank you and anyone else who can please help with telling me how to finish this project. -MarkS
