35's or 37's?

For the few miles I've driven so far? No regrets whatsoever. If anything, I have more grip.

In the old days of the 4 speeds and 6 speeds, you have to modulate your tire size and final drive to make sure the optimal power band is in the transmission gears and speeds you'll be driving. It is especially important with a diesel, since the power band is so narrow. Otherwise, you'll be lugging the vehicle or revving and going nowhere. With the 10 speed, you'll always be in the power band regardless of tire size. No need to change final drive ratios. There are so many gears to choose from that even the computers feel compelled to skip a few.

Also, there's the added weight to consider. The weight difference between the current 285/75s and the 37x12.50s are about 25-30 lbs each (this includes added wheel weight). So in all, it is 100-120 lbs of unsprung weight, which is like adding 1200-1400 lbs of cargo. That's a decent amount for a Jeep or F150. Our trucks will just shrug it off. If you want to compare straight 35x12.50s and 37x12.50s, you're looking at up to a 30 lb difference for all four tires, assuming the wheels stay the same. 350 lbs of cargo equivalent. That's like an extra two average sized men in the vehicle. Not so bad.

I’m not complaining nor do I have regrets, just pointing out my observations I have noticed from the changes.

Oh... Hehe... I just realized after rereading your original post that I answered a question no one ever asked. My apologies for coming off brash without the proper context. Well, now everyone knows how physics works against Jeeps, half tons, and older vehicles.

The physics of this is just so very incorrect, you're not adding or taking away from the cargo load, actually if one wheel of a solid axle is reaching for the bottom of a pothole (unsprung) the other hub end of the axle (along with its suspension components) is taking an incredible increase of the payload. Putting heavier tires on does not affect the axle rating of the vehicle (unless the rims are extremely offset, it's a matter of FxD / torque, 'moment'), but you do need to watch the tire/rim load rating at pressure to make sure that the selected combination is still within acceptable specs for the load towed.

I ended up going with the Nitto Ridge Grappler in a 35x12.50 R18 and I’m still on stock suspension. I’m also on running Method wheels 701 HD 18x9 +18 offset.
If I ever do a lift on my truck then the 315/70/18 is still a tire I would consider running in the future. But at the moment I’m very happy with my selection of wheel & tires at the stock height. I would love to to a Carli level kit on in the future but I’m in no rush to do so.
I just put on the Yokahama MT 315/70r18. You can run them stock, I posted pics in the wheel/tire channel.

You're correct. I should have made it clear that unsprung weight does not affect the actual amount of payload, but merely the perception.

I went with 37" Toyo RTs on my Gen 2 Raptor at the same time I added an MPT tune, Full Race IC, Colder Spark Plugs and Turbo Adapters which gave me another 80+ HP, so I really did not notice any loss of power. However, due to the added weight of the tires/wheels my steering felt heavier for a short time until I got used to it. Now, I blast away in the fastest truck I have ever owned without concern.

I have ordered 37" Ridge Grapplers for my Tremor, so I will let you know how they feel compared to stock once my truck arrives.
I ordered these too and am having second thoughts. They have not come in yet so I don’t know what the trade off is. Have you put the 37s on?

I am still waiting for my Tremor to arrive, so I have not had a chance to try them. I really like the 37s on my Raptor, so I am not having second thoughts at all.

Did you level your Raptor when you put on 37s? Did you see any drastic change in steering or mileage? I came from a Raptor too and just picked up my Tremor 2 weeks ago.

Yes, I have Geiser Springs up front and Deaver +3s in the back. The steering felt heavier at first, but I quickly got used to it.

I added an MPT 93 PRX tune and a bunch of supporting hard parts at the same time, so it was hard to do a direct mileage comparison. I get between 12-14 when empty, and 8-10 when towing a medium size load.

Thanks for this information. It’s all helpful! Btw. I love the Tremor. I got it bc we are a family of 5 and towing a trailer plus kayaks and all, the Raptor was extremely weighted down. Not so with the Tremor.

I am also upgrading to the Tremor for towing purposes. My Raptor can pull the TT, but I felt I was right on the edge of its capacity, so it was time to move up to a diesel super duty.

Absolutely feel the same although I got the 7.3 and damn I am absolutely fine with that decision. Been driving it for two weeks and having the best time doing it!

How do you like the smart cap?
So far, best cap I have owned. ARE was the go to for the last 4 vehicles. This one is better. Aside from having to assemble it, just cause I am lazy, it is well thought out and built for a truck and off roading. The dogs like it too. Looking for a flat rack now.
