Vermonster’s Thread! (Life with a SD Tremor)

Lol! I happen to have a large (5 page) wiring diagram done up in Visio for my own truck, so I just stole elements from that. :p
Of course you do!! I wouldn't expect anything less!

I know you just purchased the 400 but it looks as if they are announcing or releasing the 500 next month.

Hahhaa! Those terds. I emailed them a few weeks ago and asked about this. They said go for the 300. Lol. Oh well.

Removed the horrible label from my antenna today. Some effort peeling it off and some Goo Gone did the trick.
Catching up on this thread and found this comical... I just purchased a pretty slick camping light from Stkr and had the same experience. I'm thinking WTF, is there some new regulation on warning label adhesion. I worked awhile on getting that one off... 😥

I should have know. Every single time I buy something due to this forum, this happens, or a group buy come out the next month

I looked at the specs - there is not really enough there for me to swap. I am sure someone who is a HAM master may feel otherwise - but not this guy.

Who knows the reasoning behind the new 500, will have to see how it plays out before I get excited over it

The front facing speaker on the head sounds neat.

Wonder what the price point will be and if the FCC will drag it’s feet approving the radio & how long before RT Systems comes out with programming software

Will have to see exactly what the new radio upgrades concise of before jumping on one, I’m partially deaf & going to run a external speaker or possibly some kind of interface so the vehicle speakers work

If all else fails I’ll flip the FTM-400XDR/DE and pick up one of the new 500’s

Well my FTM400 is sitting in the box brand new still - with the MARS mod already done. The 500 will have to give me a massage in order for me to change at this point. I do like the display on the 500, and my guess is it will be much more crisp than the 400.

Any idea where/how you plan on mounting the control head or did I miss that?

You didn’t miss it. I’m debating that now - I may go BuiltRight. I bought the rear seat/cab panel, and dashboard mount. That’s the plan right now - but I’m not totally married to the idea yet.

A big thank you to @gord1895 for him taking on the cold feet dilemma in our super duty trucks. I received my diffuser today, and I’ll add it to the truck tomorrow. 🤠

I plan to use 3M tape (not recommended) and checking it often for potentially coming loose. I’ll take photos once installed!!

Awesome, glad it made it so quick. Let me know if you have any questions but it is pretty straightforward. Looking forward to your results!

Fatty 1” 3M double sided tape. Beta testing begins today! Excited to feel the difference! From day 1 I felt the floor heat missed the target.

So I bought the BuiltRight rear cab rack to mount items to.

I also purchased the dash mount, but we will get to that later - and I think that may be nearly all the BuiltRight products possible now - yikes.

I think this will work well for the weboost amplifier and perhaps even the yaesu ham radio body. I need to do some testing, but this week it may be in the 50s and I could tolerate a wiring job at that temperature.

The weboost mounting plate will work a few ways, but bolting it to the rack will ensure a firm installation, plus the cooling will be fair. I had thought about placing this in a few other spots (under the driver seat) but this seems easier. There were no screws/bolts included with the weboost fleet set-up, but I’ll find my own stainless bolts. Impressive feel to everything. 😎

Stay tuned!

Thanks @modified for the sweatshirts! These babies are quality! I need to take a whole family photo soon.

So here are my thoughts after a 30 minute drive. Outside temperature was 29 degrees Fahrenheit.

The difference in airflow is astounding. Today I am wearing cotton socks with leather cowboy boots. My feet were hot after the truck warmed up and I (for the first time) needed to reduce air on my feet due to them being HOT. It’s night and day.

The double sided tape is stuck like glue still. So that held up to initial heat testing just fine. Now it will cool down before I do another 30 minutes back home in about 30 minutes from now.

You do need to be mindful of the extra protrusion of the diffuser - likely when wearing boots. It’s high enough where you probably won’t tap it much with the tip of your boots, but I did once. Very gentle taking off from a stop where I had removed my foot from the accelerator. Again - tape held like glue. I have size 10 boots on, if anyone need to compare.

I have absolutely zero regrets - and the price was enough to make trying it worth it. I paid full price and am not getting a kickback of any sort. Very happy so far!

I'd replace your filthy February submission and replace with this one... Can't say I know if that is even allowed, but you have your daughter showing support, a Tremor hoodie, and a dirty truck... 💰

Nevermind, I see voting is live... Love the shot regardless!!
