The “Yeti” Build, aka “Whitey Ford”

Installed my Rough Country seat covers installed this morning. We didn’t take the front seats out, but if I didn’t have my wife’s help, and smaller hands, I would have had to remove them. Install took about an hour for the front and rears, not bad at all.

The fit is nice and I’m looking forward to see how they work out.

Great looking truck. I'm torn between getting seat cover or not. I ordered the KR because I like the way the seats look not sure if I want to cover up that leather. Mind you when the grand kids, dogs and my dad get into a vehicle keeping it clean is hard. Think my dad is the worst but hey he's 85 so he gets a free pass.

Thanks. I had leather in the last truck and never did covers and they held up fine. I’m just concerned about staining the fabric since we do a lot around the water or from being sweaty and dirty after doing some work. It was easy enough to just wipe the leather down.

Fleshed out the on-board air system and air horn today. Got parts on order, now to wait for them to show up. I wanted a system that could fill the tires on the truck and the RV and still make some noise to get the attention of distracted motorists. I didn’t want a train horn and felt like something a little different so opted for the low drone of a tug boat horn.

ARB Dual Compressor
2gal tank
Hornblaster Tug37 Horn

New parts are arriving ….

S&B Fuel Tank
ARB Dual Compressor
Hornblasters Tugboat Horn & 2.5gal tank

These should help when on the road with the RV.

Changes in plans mean changes in gear, right?

So the latest … I need more space for when we hit the road full time next year. I was reluctant to give up on the racks and was looking into adding Pelican Cargo cases for additional storage but finally broke down and decided a topper is really what I need. So, that also means the Putco Rack will be going up for sale in the next few days if anyone is interested. And once the topper comes in the Bakflip MX4 tonneau cover will be for sale as well.

Placed an order for an ARE V Topper with the OTR finish. The side opening windows were a must-have for accessing gear and the roof racks for later use hauling gear. They are saying somewhere between 10-15 weeks, which is cutting it close since I need to be in Texas in 17 weeks. Oh .. and I hit 50k miles this morning on the way to work.

  • ARE V Series Topper
  • OTR Line X Finish
  • Tilt Sliding Front Window
  • Outdoorsman Side Windows
  • Carpet Headliner
  • 12V LED w/ Dual Rope Lights and Prop Switch
  • 2T Rear Door
  • Yakima Jetstream Rack System
The picture is for reference, it’s the same model, finish and side windows I’m going with. I think it will look pretty good on the truck.

Just got the truck back after having the following work done. Stuff’s starting to get real as we get closer to listing our house (Feb) and hitting the road full time in our RV (April). We sold her Challenger on Saturday, the tractor went 2 weeks ago and the Mule is spoken for while the funds come in.

  • S&B Fuel Tank
  • ARB Dual Compressor w/ 2gal tank
  • Hornblaster’s Tug 37 - 37” long tub boat horn
  • SEIC wired up
We played around with some labels for the upfitter switches. The first set was the same size font as the “AUX#” on the switches but ended up being way to hard to work with and wouldn’t stick. We went up and font size and this is them. We’ll see how well they hold up but are looking at some images to try out as well. They may hold up better than individual letters.

I’m very happy with the setup and function of everything. The compressor and horn are tucked up under the spare tire and the tank is mounted behind the driver’s side rear tire with the air chuck just behind the bumper. They did lower the spare a little bit to make things fit, but nothing I’m concerned with. The BuiltRight rack and bag make a convenient spot to keep the air gun and hose. Compressor sound inside the truck is minimal and even outside isn’t bad; not enough to interrupt normal conversation.

The SEIC will come in handy sitting at idle for long periods of time, especially with the dogs in the truck and the AC kicking. And the extra fuel will be very nice once we really start towing. I’m hoping to be able to get a weekends worth of travel out of a single fill up.

And the pups got some new stuff too. They’ll ride in the back seat with the seat folded up and will fit back to back. The doors can be opened from either side so it will make opening them from either side of the truck easy. And they will fit through the RV door if we need to crate them inside.

Thankfully the guy I ordered the topper from was able to pull some strings and move some things around and got mine in about 2 months ahead of schedule. That works out great since we were really going to be pushing the envelope between when it was supposed to arrive and when we needed to be on the road to Texas.

I think it looks awesome and will give a lot more space for gear once we hit the road. Yakima racks were backordered, but I’ll be adding those once they arrive.

Which air tank did you go with?

Nice man, I have the RuffTuff (old name) also and love them!

My current F-150 is called Whitey Ford also. LOL

I have the carhartt ones they slip on easy for the fronts, stay in place pretty well, good protection for the dogs or any wet and muddy situation

is that a 3” receiver shackle hitch? What brand as it any good? Lots of 2” options, but I’d love a three inch so we don’t need to use an adaptor sleeve. Thanks

Installed the E&G Console Vault this morning. It was a straight forward install and took about the 30 minutes they say.

One minor difference where my truck suffered from the instructions was the bolts that hold the top of the console on. The instructions state they are 7mm hex but mine were T20 (pretty sure that’s what they were) instead. No big deal, but figured I’d mention it.

Now we’ve got some secure storage for spare keys, important documents and other things when we are on the road.
I realize this is an old post, but I’m curious - can the locked portion be on the other side? I’m wanting a half safe like this, but I want the locked portion to be on the passenger side. Can the side be selected or changed?

I’m pretty sure it can’t be. The only option would be installing it backwards/flipped around, but I don’t believe it would actually fit that way or mount properly.

Installed the SumoSprings from SuperSprings today. Took about 30 minutes and had the added benefit of letting me test out how the onboard air handled an air ratchet. It did it flawlessly by the way.

I’d noticed a little more sag than I would have liked on the last test run with RV and fully loaded bed. So, this should fix that. I left both spacers in, so we’ll get engagement early. I‘ll try that out and decide if we want to remove one, or both, before we hit the road next month.

Finally got around to installing the Garmin Dash Cam 47. We picked it up a while ago in preparation for hitting the road full time. I hope I never need to use any of the video from the unit, but it’s some cheap insurance.

There have been plenty of posts about which camera to use, so I won’t go into that, and I’ll just focus on the install. I will say, I did not do the Park Monitor feature so my choice of fuse will differ if you want that feature. I also do not have a power dimming mirror, so tapping power from there wasn‘t an option.

First some prep work. I cleaned the windshield and removed the passenger side A-pillar cover/handle. There are 2 10mm bolts that sit just above and below the handle. Once those are removed the cover lifts out. Careful to undo the speaker wire that runs to the low mounted speaker and also … just be a little careful around the airbag, don’t want any mistakes with that. You’ll end up pealing back the door sill weatherstripping, but I waited until I was ready to run the cable down to the passenger side fuse block.

Then I mounted the camera. That let me make sure it was up and out of the way while ensuring it had a good view out the front windshield. That also gave me a starting point for running the cable. It was a simple job to just tuck the cable up into the front of the headliner. I used a small gap in between the windshield and the top console-thing to act as a strain relief/wire catch.

Once to the A-pillar I routed the wire down along side existing wiring and was able to use some existing wire clips to hold the cable in place. Next I peeled back the weatherstripping from the door sill at the point where the dash meets it. That gave me enough room to slip the wire behind the dash and down to the back side of the fuse panel. From there I was able to pass the wires through to the front.

I used a wiring harness that included a fuse tap. I used fuse # 35, marked as unused in my manual. It’s switched so the camera isn’t always running and is only on when the truck is on. I used a mounting stud located just to the left of the fuse panel to mount the ground.

Checked function then replaced the fuse panel cover, pushed the weatherstripping back into place and replaced the A-pillar cover. I’m pleased with it.

How are you liking the topper? I have the MX series with OTR on order, should be in early may.

How was the finish of the OTR?

Lastly, why did you go with the double T's on the back versus the single handle?

thanks
