Most of us have winterized our campers so what projects do you have in store for them over the winter?

Here are mine:
  • Swapping out factory fridge for a straight DC fridge. Current one crapped out.
  • Installing 300W of fixed solar, plus controller on the roof.
  • GMRS base station radio
  • Maybe adding another 100Ah of battery. Don’t need it but I may get bored.

I know you are talking upgrades for this winter, but I wondered if you were aware of a new model coming out from MIdland. This is a full function GMRS two way including repeater functionality with a full 50 watts of transmission. This model isn't on the market yet but it's on their web site and soon to be released. This is the next project for Redzilla when it becomes available. Already got my Federal license and ready to go. See what you think:

Dang. That looks like a nice one! The wife wants a GMRS radio with PA capability for her rig (Bronco) but this will for be good in the camper and the truck.

What's 'winterized'? 🤡

Big proj yesterday. Bought an LPG tank lock designed by two blind dyslexic monkeys. I used one part and the lock so at least it works now.

These were supposed to be available late last summer. My guess is they'er experiencing the same chip availability issues. They may even be sitting on a boat in the port of LA. The web site says out of stock. Hopefully in stock soon.
These type of radios fit nicely in the console side pocket with just the mike to work with. In the RV there would be multiple choices for mounting and power connection. Comes as a complete package including antenna.

FYI, I just sent a request to their customer service for any updates they may have to offer regarding production and availability. Hopefully they will get back to me soon with good news. (y)

I also had some intentions of putting a solar setup on my rig. However, talks with the wife on a 5er has stalled that project for the time being.

My early Spring or late Winter project.
I scooped up this Honda eu3000is today. I found one left at a local Northern Tool Store. This will run everything on my Oliver Travel Trailer using the Optional LP quick connects.
I am ordering an LP conversion kit so I can run this gen off my (2) 30# LP tanks and not have to carry gasoline. Hutch Mountain makes a LP conversion kit-

Do they debate the generator when it runs on propane?

I hope this is appropriate place for a dumb winter RV querstion.

Do any of you keep your RV trailers warm thru the winter? By this, I mean parked outside, plugged in, propane on, and furnace running.

Not during the dead of winter - we stay and play at home over the dark cold months - anywhere it is not cold that time of year there are too many people for our taste. We use the 5th Wheel March thru November - I have full hookups for the 5th Wheel at my house so it stays plugged into a 50 amp service and when un-winterized I keep it hooked up to a 100 lb propane tank and run the heat at 45-50 depending on night time temperatures to keep things from freezing up. Living in the coldest place in the lower 48 we only have maybe 3 months of frost free days so the furnace runs 6 out of those 9 months. Typically go thru at least 1 sometimes 2 100 lb tanks of propane a year.

This last week I added a Renogy Battery Monitor to the Master Bedroom - I have a solar monitor in the storage bay but wanted a full monitor system with alarm in the bedroom to keep an eye on battery level charging and discharging as we typically boondock in remote locations and I like to keep an eye on the systems - especially charging the eMtn Bikes every day. The days are getting longer and Cold Winter is over. In another month it will be time to alternate between skiing and biking...

That would be pretty expensive in Wyoming. Wintering is pretty easy and a lot cheaper in cold climates. Freezing exposed pipes gets expensive real fast.

My previous RV trailer was a Jayco bunkhouse. The floor cracked during a cold snap. Right in the center of the trailer, right in the main hallway, a split in the vinyl about 6' long. It was not there when I winterized it, then a few months later, after a few days of 25 degrees below zero weather, the split was there. Annoying. No easy way to fix it. (The up side was that the market for these trailers was such that I still sold it for more just a bit more than I paid for it.) This whole issue got me to thinking maybe I'm wintering it wrong. I started thinking maybe some folks keep theirs heated all winter, hence my question.

My new trailer is a Grand Design. I sure hope the floor doesn't crack in this one.

Never had a problem with my Grand Design Momentum and the cold - it can get down to -42* here. Never saw that in my old Nash 5th wheel either. Been at least -35* many times since owning my Momentum without issue. Hope you don't have that issue with your new rig!
