Hey all. Went to uncoil the Warn winch and respool under tension today. This following the notice from folks here that you should check for the inverted trim M6 bolts install. (see the document in the link below). Last night I installed my own new M6 round/smooth top screws in the right direction before any uncoil.

Turns out they (dealer install) must have already snagged the line on the install/wind up when new. (see pic of the snag/fray )
My question- I've learned you can repair/braid these.. and that I can possibly just self repair? And is this even that bad? I'm sure they snag and such in real use. If I can just watch a vid and repair.. it's an option. Sent a note to dealer.. on standby.

tip on the M6 bolt inversion service bulletin - https://www.fordtremor.com/threads/recast-tremor-winch-install-change-order.5113/

Anyone know what Warn synth-replacement line would be needed? Curious on the model used in the Tremor? Replacement lines do not seem too expensive on Amazon. (Many $40- $80 even). What's the spec on this as OD synth rope I would/could use.
TIA

The replacement rope made by Warn (Spydura) runs around $325 for 70 feet. Note that Warn "recommends" that you replace this rope every 12 months. I had Spydura on my last truck and used my winch a fair amount, I replaced mine twice in 10 years. Never had a problem but never wanted to have an issue. I did keep the old Spydura for tow ropes, used one of them once and it held up fine.

A few things:
1. The rope as-is is not safe and should not be used. That is a significant amount of damage.
2. It is possible to splice synthetic rope and, therefore, cut out the damaged section and re-join it. Do some research online and find some YouTube videos for instructions. Doesn't appear to be overly difficult, but a bit tedious.
3. Make sure when replacing the rope you don't go much, if any, longer than factory. In another thread I inquired about how much extra room there is on the drum to fit a longer rope and there's basically none. That will likely be your biggest restriction when trying to replace it with anything other than the stock, unless you want to shorten it yourself.

IMO I would get the dealer to pay for a replacement rope because it was installed wrong/poorly. :)

Check out master pull for quality replacement lines: They offer thinner lines that are stronger as well, so you can get more line on the spool. :D

Sizing guide:

I had the snag issue on mine and it looked a lot like yours in a few spots. I showed the dealership and they ordered me a new line. But while I was waiting for it to come in I had to use my winch a couple times when I replaced the old line I couldn’t find the areas where it had been snagged. So maybe if you do a couple heavy pulls with the winch it will stretch the bunched up areas where it had snagged. It should be fine as long as there isn’t a lot of broken fibers in the line. But I would show the dealership that did the install and see if they will replace it first.

short update- Called Dealer, sent in a few pics. r. Took 1.5 weeks to get my new synth-line. (free)
Picked up today.

Ouuuu bummer gents! o_O I honestly don't know. It's in a box, loose w/ the bolt and half loop washer like thing... loose, No paperwork - Like someone maybe took it off another one (was my first thought). Still no clue on the model of the winch, but there is a post here that discusses that in detail recently. Sorry to hear and that adds up from the posts that noted there is such a shortage of the OEM accy pool on these (another recent thread I saw).

I did run the 1st stretch wind up on mine and It looked just like yours did. Once done, It pulled back and looked nearly new as someone else noted above they also did. I'm not a winch expert by any means but you may want to try it? Life and limb not worth it though if you expect to use it to high loading..... but mine pulled the 350 up to the tree just fine. I'll snap a pic of the bad spot post-wind under load tomorrow.

The model is the “Ford Winch, made by Warn”. :ROFLMAO: It’s a variation on one of Warn’s winches (I believe I read it’s based on a discontinued model, sorry don’t have the link handy), modified to fit in the cramped quarters of the factory bumper.

You cannot purchase the winch anywhere other than Ford - Warn doesn’t even sell it directly. It can be found through Ford Performance (link below).

////and to get approved for the replacement, I know the tech needed to work w/ Ford Performance directly. I guess they have a department of it's own for this issue and the replacement. Ford Performance cost center ate this and probably all of ours.

Question. What does it take to replace the rope? How much of the truck do you have to remove to get at the bolt that holds the line on?

I installed my winch and should have thought about what is required to replace the rope but didn't.

To replace the rope you have to pop the tow hook covers off and unbolt the front plate that the fair lead is bolted to.
