Why rev limited?

Thanks for the detailed response. I recognized that it was rev limited while relatively cold. I just drove home from work which is 2 miles from home. I'll get it out on the highway and get the tranny up to temp and try again. I tried it in park when I got back home. Shifting aggressively (like getting on the freeway), it shifts at about 3.5K so I don't notice the limiter either, but just above that it holds the RPM constant.

Mine is still breaking in too, but there are two schools of thought on the break in period. Pressure in the cylinders is what sets the rings. When they do the initial start up they run these engines for 7 minutes pretty wide open so the high pressure sets the rings. So brief intervals at higher revs (like entering the freeway and giving it all it can do) isn't a bad idea.

For those who asked about needing to add 35's on a Tremor, I was one of those unfortunates that got their Tremor package dropped when they stopped putting them on the XLT's. I've now got to add the 2 inch level and the 35's myself. :(
You don't need any lift at all to fit "true" 35s! I put 295/65R20 Toyo AT3(34.7 inches on the truck) tires on 20x9 +12 offset. 0 rubbing or trimming on a factory suspension FX4.

I’ve got a little rubbing on the rear of the well with 35/12.5/20 tires on Fuel D709’s with a -18 Offset.

1. Torque is for pulling and towing. HP is top end. I would never want to be at 5K towing......
2. sure....
Torque and horsepower are for towing. Without horsepower, you do no work. While I don't know enough to be able to explain the math and physics behind it, I've dug enough into it to know that it's a combination.

And for 2, check out this video series with Brian Wolfe, the lead designer for the 7.3L who's now left Ford and is working with the aftermarket on modifications for it. He was well known in the racing community before his time at Ford.
