Just wondering where we live, why we live there and the good/bad of it!

I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico because my family lives here. Lived here my entire life.

There is more good and more bad, I would just have to think harder and I am too lazy to do that...

The good:

Green Chile
I freaking love it

Sunsets
Beautiful sunsets!

Sandia Mountains
Also beautiful!

The Fall
Fall is beautiful and the weather is good for decent amount of it!

Balloon Fiesta
Really cool event once a year. I go every year

The bad:

Summer
Summer temperature is HORRIBLE. So bad that on its own it outweighs most of the good

Wind
When it gets windy dust gets all over the place and makes it horrible to go outside. Happens way too much.

It is dry
Doesn't rain very much. Almost never snows.

Sun
It destroys plastic, paint, etc...

Ugly
It is just ugly here. Almost every house/building is tan and it looks like dirt. And there is lots of dirt. So everything is tan here. Now that being said there are a few different color houses and depending on the color they get stained tan from dirt so it makes sense why everything is tan.

And I know that some of this stuff isn't that bad but I can't stand it.

Asheville, NC--retirement spot

The good:

Food and drink--you can find anything here

Mountains

Hiking

Moderate climate but still 4 seasons

It's just beautiful here

The Bad:

Homeless

Ultra-Liberal hippies

Drugs

Crime

Prices for everything

Parking

Drivers

Fresno, Ca
Pros:
Cheap for California (housing and cost of living)
1 hour to the mountains
2 to the beach
Multiple nearby National Parks
Out doors /motor sports is still alive (for now)
Grew up near by
Good pay for the work I do
Still has conservative roots and family values

The Bad

Rising cost of living
Taxes are ridiculous
Crime rising (in some areas more than others)
Weather typically sucks 90% of the time
Drugs are everywhere
Air quality is some of the worst in the nation
STDs are everywhere
Not much to do “here” much nearby (I’m an outdoors person)
Becoming more liberal every day (and not in a good way)
Homeless is way up

Albuquerque here to man.

Buffalo NY.

Born here

The good:

Hmm....

The Bad:

Taxes
politics
taxes
weather
lack of freedom
roads
gun laws
drugs
liberals
state is run by the "City"

What do you think of it and why do you live here?
I moved out here about 10 years for a summer and never left. Haha land of entrapment for sure. But I really like it here. Just bought a house. Now just waiting for my tremor to arrive

Good
Chili for sure red or green.
Cost of living very affordable
No humidity!!
The Sandias for sure
Lots of Camping/fishing spots
Lots of BLM land to go play on
I used to love the casinos. But that habit became a little to expensive
And Great beer

Bad
Crime and drugs for sure
Where I work I am constantly looking out for used needles.
Schools. I don’t have kids yet but I hear the school are not great.
Drivers. Roll up to a round about here and no one knows what to do. Haha

Ugly
Mainly the drug problem and crime. I have spent quite a bit on a good security system and cameras always worried having my trucks parked in front.

KC is home base, but my yard is any phenomenal place I park the Tremor and TT.

In October 2020 we cashed out the wife’s 401k and bought a travel trailer. Next we sold the house, my corvette and gave my beloved F150 to our son, (I couldn’t bear to sell it.)then bought a couple of motorcycles and ordered the Tremor in December and have been full time since January.

This month we’re residing in Moab,
when it gets hot I’ll head to the high country.

Napa California

Good:
  • It's beautiful in every direction
  • The weather is always perfect
  • I can be “off grid” with open land as far as the eye can see within minutes of a major metro that provides ready access to any service or opportunity I could ever need
  • I can be in almost any of Earth's biomes within a couple hour drive
  • There's always a market-beating return on our real estate (historically… ?)
Bad:
  • Paying a steep price for entry
  • Our state run HOA dues are higher than I'd prefer ?
  • Persistent threat of wildfire
  • Persistent drought
  • Summer “smoke season” (a relatively recent recurring, and potentially perpetual, phenomenon)
  • Have to listen to naive people shit on me, mine, and where I live everyday because they believe tribalism is cool, Fox News or some thirsty YouTuber told them to, it's unbearably cold or humid where they live, and/or they finally realized they're paying immaterially lower state income taxes (if actually lower at all in their marginal tax bracket) for a reason and all of that upfront savings is being lost in the end around ?

Sydney, New South Wales.

Live here because of work and family. Now that I have retired, I’m moving to the Granite Belt in southern Queensland In a couple of months. No traffic lights, on acreage in a beautiful bush setting. It won’t be as hot or humid over summer either.

Originally from your area. It took me awhile to realize they named the local theme park The Great Escape for a reason. I'll raise a glass to you when you make it out. ?
I still call it “story town” which was the original name. I laugh that it’s now a six flags. More like a 1 flag

Crap. I forgot to list the pros and cons of NY

pros: let’s see. I’ll get back to you on that.
Cons: How much time ya got?
I'll give you a couple of pros. There's nothing like ”Summer Fun” in NY. Such a classic Americana vibe. If you make the best of it. And Autumn in NY (all of New England) is one of a kind. I hope to cruise around the Adirondack's in a Tremor some Fall. And then quickly come back home. ?

The Adirondacks are the only pro I have that you cant easily get in a more free state.

Wow! This is kind of depressing.
I live just south of St. Louis, and aside from the humidity in the summer and the crap they spray on the roads in the winter, I'm happy here.
Of course my allergies are kicking my ass right now....

I live i a more rural area, and am surrounded by woods. I have about 3.5 acres, and I'm about 1.5 miles from the major hwy.
Aside from the weather, and the crime downtown, life here is good. I feel good about raising my kiddos here.
This is where I'm from, and where I intend to stay.

I have relatives in Florida, California, and next door in Illinois. But this suits us well.

North end of the DFW area, TX

I decided to move here because I absolutely had it with SFBA, Kalifornistan. It was 100% by choice. Yes, I left friends and family behind, but it was totally worth it for my sanity. Top 3 reasons why I left (in order) were persistent racism, economics, and political differences.

The good:
Edge of rural area / low density
Wide open space
Much more like-minded folks
Dollar goes really far here
The weather. I actually enjoy ADHD weather. I couldn't stand the solar death rays of CA sun. I am definitely in the minority.
Freedom to live the way I want to live

The bad:
Lower density population means office commutes in general would be extremely long
Suburbs are entirely made up of McMansions
Most of those have back alley driveways. WHY??!! Fortunately, my place has a traditional driveway with a 3-car garage, so I can't really complain.
Despite more like minded folks here, the middle class folks are made almost entirely of normies. I guess that's why all the neighborhoods are cookie cutter.
Hipster/Hippie invasion is targeting my particular area. I just got here. I don't want to move again!

Actually it’s a beautiful place to live. It’s just the politics (taxes included with politics) that ruin NY.
