Gents,

In the market for a 3 seater UTV. I’m currently leaning towards a CanAm HD10. Other units to consider are a 835Gator, Polaris Ranger. I’m open to opinions.

Would love to hear some thoughts.

Honda Pioneer, hands down. I duck hunt with a fleet of Can-Ams but to me the most versatile unit is the Honda. I own a Can-AM four wheeler and a Honda and love both.

What makes the Pioneer more versatile in your experience?

land use, hog hunting and general chores is what I’m going after. I used to own RZRs. Nowadays I want comfort and practically.

I've had a Can-am Defender for the past 3 years and it's been a good machine. It's a little clunky with initial acceleration, but I think the newer Defenders drive smoother.

I've heard good things about the Honda as well (no belt!)

I have the HD5 exclusively for use on my property. The only thing it leaves me wanting for is a bigger bed.

I’m tempted to get a HD10 PRO at some point. With the long bed, drop sides, and extra towing capacity it’s a hell of a deal for its starting price. Best value on the lineup, IMO.

Watch out for which engine/trim packages you go for. CanAm pricing is bizarre IMO. Some combinations are a great deal, other combinations are comically overpriced. My HD5 was $10k out the door. You can easily get a Defender to $20k+ selling price without adding anything substantive.

Avoid “comfort” options. They get you on those. And in any case budget a few grand for “accessories”.

I recommend half doors and a matching ATV.

I have a 2017 pro fxt mule 6-seater its been a great rig not a powerhouse by any means ( I think its the same engine in the gator) but it gets the job done. I have put abort 5k hard miles on mine and no issues so far, one thing that is nice the back seats fold up and makes the bed a few feet longer.

I have a 1000-5. We needed a five seater and it actually can hold six. The Pioneer maintains a short length even with it's seating, so it will maneuver and go places others cant because they are to long and as a result will bottom out. The power is there when you need it. It's comfortable for road transportation, it's perfect for trails and is a work horse when needed for farm use. Some guys aren't a fan of the transmission but not because of issues. They just don't like the active shifting. Can-Am builds awesome units. I have one but for SXS, I like the Honda for an overall application.

Speaking of which... I have looked on and off for a future purchase and came across this yesterday:

That is 2/3 the cost of my Tremor!

If that’s a ‘fair price’ I’ll be happy to sell mine

Re-design of the electric Polaris Ranger is coming out soon and looks really interesting. Might be worth waiting to see how that turns out and what the pricing is if an electric UTV is of any interest. The demo videos I've seen of the prototypes are really good.

Dang. That looks pretty slick. At this rate I won’t find a gas unit before then anyways. Any idea on the price range?

+1 for the can am defender. We have a 6 seater and love it. They redesigned the heads for 2020 and this thing is very quiet compared to other units. 1000cc. Great machine. Mine is on the left. My buddies Polaris general is on the right.

I haven't seen pricing yet beyond some wild-ass guesses. The official reveal is in December and that's when they'll announce msrp I suppose.

I'd like one for snow plowing. I need hard doors and a heater. What one do I need to get in line for?

Makes sense. Almost sounds like the Pioneer is competing more directly with the CanAm Commander / Polaris General than the Defender/Ranger. The auto transmission seems slick. The Defender transmission is a bit clunky.
