Preorders are now open for the Upfitter harness. This the preorder window will be open until at least 4/1/24. At that time, based on the order demand, ill place my orders for materials. Estimated shipment is 4-6 weeks from 4/1.

also, if you don't plan on using all of the connections right away, here's the link to the caps that you can add to your order: https://cblightingdesigns.myshopify.com/products/upfitter-wiring-harness-cap-for-unused-plugs

i figured i would start a separate thread and not bog down the "what have you done for your tremor" thread with a discussion.

There was quite a bit of discussion in the other thread relative to a harness to make wiring the upfitters a cleaner install where you do it once and then have access to plug n play connections whenever you add an accessory.

I've had a few folks reach out who are interested so i wanted to discuss and come up with a concept that meets most peoples needs.

This is what i am currently thinking.

Essentially, 6 Metripack 2 pin connectors that are 45Amp capable. all 6 grounds would bundle together and terminate in a single ring terminal to ground to the negative terminal of the battery. the positives would each go to the respective upfitter wires.

all wiring would be 10 gauge for simplicity sake.

included would also be 6 pigtails with the mating metripack connector to splice to whatever accessory to be able to plug in to the upfitter connections.

the main harness would be labeled with aux switch # and current rating of that circuit.

how does this sound to folks? is it missing any important aspects of the superduty upfitter setup? I'm completely open to suggestions.

I’m ready to order!

Will the termination method to the blunt cut pigtails coming out of the Upfitter relay box be crimp barrels or something else?

Can you also include 6 dummy Metripack plugs or at least have it be an option to choose 1-6 dummy plugs in the order? That way they will be sealed until we install accessories in the future. I already have two things on upfitters, so I would need 4 dummy plugs in my example.

for the F150 harness, we currently provide solder shrinks. they are water proof as they have a sealing ring that shrinks with the shrink tube and they solder the connections together.

I’ve read about the concern with solder connections in automotive. The real concern there is if you don’t fasten the wires down and they are free to “flop” around. The solder joint is stiff and turns the wire after the joint into a “hinge” that after many cycles of flexing could break. This is really an issue for longer runs of wire that aren’t secured.

For this length of wire, I don’t see this being a concern. Especially for the majority of use cases. also, with 10 gauge, I think this is even less of a concern since the wire is pretty stiff itself.

Looks very interesting and a very clean and easy to upgrade upfitter switches

Yes, that is something that can be included and is something im currently looking to add to the F15 harness as it has been requested there.

orignally, the thought was that the unused pigtails could be plugged in and the loose ends shrinked to act as a plug until the time came to splice the pigtail onto the accessory.

But the plugs/caps would be an easy add and cleaner.

What about extending other 4 ( run and pto ) wires?

what are those? we don't have those on the F150 so I am not familiar with them and their use.

I created a thread on this very question recently as i was prepping to build my harness.

thanks for that. but what does PTO stand for? would the desire be to just extend those wires and have a single pin connector more easily accessible?

Following as well, definitely interested

I’m thinking just extending those wires is the right approach. That way you have a complete harness solution and someone who might actually need those wires won’t be left out. I’m pretty sure there are Superduty folks even on the forum who tap into those Run/PTO wires.

That’s what i did with my own extension harness. As of now i don’t have a use case for them, but i extended them anyways just in case, so that i don’t have to go back there again.

I dont understand why ford has not made this harness. There is a demand, should be an option with the up lifter switches if not a permanent part of that option. Hats off to you Engineering types for figuring this all out, I am certainly Interested in making an investment.
