Tremors & Trails - Socal Tremor Run Dates

DSC09344.webp

Hey guys!

I realize we are already into March, but I wanted to see if people had interest in doing a Mojave Rd trail run starting Friday March 28th, ending Sunday March 30th with WAYPOINT, Dan @Carli Suspension (@BLACKCHERRY) and some others. For those who drive fast (cough cough Dan) you could get this done in a day. If you drive a little slower or are carrying your house with you like we are ( and @Chris-DTA ) it's probably a two day trip. This is a great oppurtunity to experience Carli's offerings in the dirt.

Hey everyone!

For those wanting to hit the dirt friday night , plan is to enter via Afton Canyon at approx 2-2:30PM. Goal is to drive as long as everyone wants. Ideally, we can get maybe 1-2 hours in , which will depend on everyone's pace. If we are moving at a good rate we should be able to make some distance and still get some time to setup camp and enjoy the evening.

Saturday morning we will link up with the Carli guys led by (@BLACKCHERRY) and will work through most of the section on Saturday with them, assuming those of us with a house on wheels (@ me & @Chris-DTA :ROFLMAO: ) can keep up. Eventually, they will start to shoot ahead so they can make it to their hotel and night shenanigans. If that tickles your fancy, that should be a great night. If you're looking to spend another night in the dirt, a few of us plan to spend Saturday night camping -- ideally with just 1-2 hours of road left in the AM.

I plan to bring beers and some snacks for Saturday's lunch stop.

As I get more free time leading up to friday, Ill continue to update this post with more coordinates and other pertinent information.

Stoked to see some of you in the desert.

NOTES:
Trip Length: 133 miles, 1.5 - 3 days

Typical Terrain: Along the way you can expect to encounter deep sandy, large washes, whoops, some rocks, and one hill that can pose a challenge to vehicle with limited articulation (Sprinter vans). Paiute Pass has also gone from an easy trail to a moderate trail due to the increased intensity of recent winter storms. The water crossing at Afton Canyon regularly reaches 3' and sometimes higher. Vehicles like Subarus may have trouble with this section and may want to consider using the Afton Canyon Reroute.

Fuel: It's approxomiately 170 miles between gas stations in Bullhead City and Yermo. It is possible to depart the track and head a few miles north to Baker (about 2/3 of the way through the Mojave Road) to refuel.
Provisions: Provisions can be obtained in the same general vicinity as fuel.
Gear: No specialized gear is recommended for this adventure. VHF radios highly recommend for group communication.

Permits: Groups of more than 7 are required to apply for a permit. For this reason, if we find ourself in a group larger than 7 and get stopped, its important that we dont say this was an organized trip. Next time if we have good attendance, I will go through the red tape and get the permit.

MISC NOTES / COORDINATES (more coming soon)
Afton Canyon Natural Area is located 37 miles northeast of Barstow along Interstate 15 between the Afton Road and Basin Road exits.
AFTON CANYON COORDINATES: 35.052578, -116.389543
MOJAVE RIVER CROSSING:

@gmoon - I'm moving this to the regional section. This is where the other meetup type events are and I can then attach the thread title tag to it...

Somone get this guy a meetup organizer badge @modified

We need you at ours!

How about you take your AZ crew after your meetup and drive west and meet us in Mojave!
I think you're on to something. . .

Love it, Garrett. I would love to do a run - normally, we have a minimum requirement of:
  1. Performance Suspension (of some sort). We normally recommend 2.5" diameter remote reservoir shocks at a minimum (Carli Pintop). This trail can be done in a stock truck, but at a snails pace. To @gmoon 's point, we can split this up. I can lead a faster group, Garrett can lead a slower group if that's how this shakes.
  2. Full size spare wheel/tire
  3. Tools to change a tire and address any easy failure encountered on the trail.
  4. Coms - We run VHF radios; this is what we recommend. Handhelds are limited range but can get the job done if communicating in a tighter group. Truck mounted mobile units with decent antenna(s) preferred. This is very dependent on the group. Depending on who wants to go and what the truck capabilities are, there can be long-rang coms in a couple lead vehicles and short range within the sub groups. At the end of the day, this isn't a multi-group, multi-day Baja run where we're super concerned about this aspect, but it's important to establish coms either way to keep the sub-groups together in marking turns and such. This is especially important with larger groups.
  5. Snacks/Drinks
This run has washes, pole line roads, a small water crossing, open desert, whoops, and some crawling opportunities. It's difficulty is very pace dependent. In big-shock Carli trucks, we normally do the 140-150 dirt miles in a day. We can group on Harvard Wash Rd. off the 15 to start, then it's a long day in the dirt.

We depart in the morning and end up dropping into Laughlin in the evening. We stay at Harrah's, then bail the next morning. Taking the trail back is an options, taking the 40 home is obviously much quicker.

We've always kept a tight group on these runs so we'll need to see how many people are interested in such a trip and mold the plan to fit the group. I'm planning to bring one of our sales guys as a co-driver and my creative director to capture content opportunities. My tech also wants to come in his Ranger Raptor and Product designer is interested in showing up in his 2016 Super Duty with a Dominator System.

I guess I'm off the books then, no Carli products on my rig (other than the torsion bar).

Thanks anyway.

Your truck sees a hell of a lot more dirt than most. I wouldnt be concerned about it. To dan's point, speed plays a big role and the faster trucks will move to the front and the slower trucks can be in the back with me and my house.. Though I do tend to have a fast house!

Thanks @gmoon - I was just giving @BLACKCHERRY some dirt.

What you guys are doing on this run; I do for a living, literally.

Well I won’t pay you to come out but you should!

Hey now, i didn't say you couldn't come, just that you won't keep up with my truck!
I guess I'll have to put my speed limiter back on to fall behind you.

I'm in. Would be nice to finally get some use out of my e-venture system.

I have a GMRS radio mounted, but I think I have a hand held VHF Rugged Radio.

Damn! I am going to be in Mammoth with the fam that weekend. Any flexibility on the dates? Bummed to miss this.

We can go!! I have all the required assets 😏 Except VHF, only have GMRS onboard. Count us in
