Tremor and Carli Budget Upgrade

This signature kit is exactly what I’m leaning towards, carli springs and shocks will do me just fine coming from 3.5” readylift and fox.

Does anyone know if this basic Carli upgrade and the addition of the 37's has any negative effect on towing capacity beyond changing gooseneck height? I know he says it will still tow good in the video, but I haul a 9000 lb tractor, infrequently but I do need to from time to time.

Yes, I believe it would negatively impact towing. Carli or CJC has a blog post out there somewhere that I believe attempts to quantify this to some effect.

IIRC, unless you’re going with airbags, you’re losing tow capacity.

I apologize if this has already been posted, but it is only 3 days old and it is very interested to see him take a stock Tremor and progressively upgrade the suspension system.

These guys do great work. I’ve had 2 Tacoma’s upgraded by them and couldn’t be happier with the results.

Obviously with the truck level it will inherently sit nose high with any notable amount of weight/tongue weight on it.

The only reduction in capacity is with the full replacement rear leaf pack. With those they clearly call out that payload capacity is reduced to that of a “lite” 3/4 ton (think 75-80% of a normal 3/4 ton). This means a somewhat small payload drop for a 250 and quite a significant drop for a 350. The way they say you can restore that capacity is with airbags (make sure to use a daystar cradle or similar to not damage the bags when flexing :)).

None of their other rear modifications (shocks and/or add-a-leaf pack) will reduce your payload capacity. Neither will any front-end modifications.

It’s worth noting that if you’re regularly hauling near capacity their sway bar wouldn’t be a great idea due to the additional roll allowed.

Got all of this from the paragraphs at the bottom of their product pages for their various kits, as well as the individual components. It’s very well documented on their site, though it is buried a bit in the paragraphs.

If you watched the video, he kept the stock rear leaf spring pack and the rear is still a bit higher than the front, but not as much as stock. All he did on the rear was change out the rear shocks. If you wanted to add a about another inch to the rear and beef it up without losing capacity, then the Add-a-pack is the best solution,

When he speaks of "minor trimming " in the video, what specifically is he talking about trimming?

Also, @danmand & @ccw so if I am understanding correctly the 37's fit on stock tremors in the rear without modification? And the 37's he put on this truck are slightly wider than the 37's that most folks upgrade to?

I appreciate everyone's help, this is certainly not my area of expertise and I want to order all of the components that I am going to upgrade the truck with now while the truck is on order because of the current procurement issues and I want to fully understand what I am doing.

My Truck is still higher in the rear with the Carli Commuter and 35" Nittos. I'll get a few other than driveway pics, just as soon as the Winch gets installed.

Iconic silver and carbonized gray look great together. 2 favorite colors. Didn’t think of 2 tone but it looks great on your truck.

That’s my understanding, though I can’t say for sure. Check out the video posted above for that. :)

Also worth noting regarding capacity: when you change tires be sure to look at the tire load ratings. Factory tires are rated for 4080 pounds each, which is more than the truck and axles are rated for. If your new tires are rated for less they may become a limiting factor for your payload and/or axle capacity.

Can you please provide some feedback on the ride quality with your Commuter setup vs stock Tremor? How does it feel towing? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure yet. I'm all the way up to 500 miles on the truck. Still working on Tire Pressure. I can say, 60 psi in the ft isn't it. I'm going to try 50. It no longer wanders like it did with the Stock Goodyears, but the ride with Bilsteins are firm. Much firmer than I expected it to be, but like I said, I think the tire pressure may be the culprit between Firm and Hard here. I hope, once I have the Kings and the Carli ft Sway Bar on, it'll be a substantial differences. I can say for certain, the Helwig Rear Sway Bar really settled down the reared chatter.

Sway bars usually reduce roll not increase. That's their point. The sway bar will also reduce articulation though.

I was watch a video about a couple who built their own camper on the back of a Ram 3500. They visited Hellwig and Hellwig recommended an extra leaf pack and one of their rear sway bars.
