So I just went in for the first oil change at the dealer. 5,800 miles. My tremor is not a baby anymore!! They grow up so fast. I asked the big question when are the big milestones for her. Like transmission service transfer case. As I am coming from a Duramax it was around 25k form the first one. The dealer is telling me transmission isn't until 100k.

Any one out there have any knowledge on this? I'm shocked its not for a 100k or Am I being lied to. I like to keep up on the services especially with maintaining the warranty.

100k is normal use but heavy use alot of towing is 50k

Not specific to this gearbox, but to all autos generally. Transmission specialists I speak to say replace oil every 40,000 kms. Check the operating temperature and maybe also fit a better cooler too.

I heard some recommend doing a BG every 50k. I may end up doing that with mine.
With the high temps these 10 spds run at I am doing a Complete BG fluid exchange every 30k and will qualify for the lifetime protection plan.

I ran amsoil fuel efficient atf in the 5r110w 2007 6.0 powerstroke for 392,000 miles, with 30k mile change intervals. Not a single transmission issue.
Would love to use it in the 10 speed.

BG is a brand name. Look at bgprod.com for more info. It is not sold off the shelf in auto part stores. It is sold to and offered at Dealerships and auto repair shops. If used and installed at a participating Repair shop you get Lifetime Coverage on the Vehicle component that was serviced. Just have to use their products and perform component service on prescribed intervals. An example of coverage is Brake fluid flushing every 30k and hydraulic brake components like Calipers, ABS control units and master cylinder are covered for life
No brainer.

Thanks...I will check it out. I dont believe in lifetime tranny fluid or even 100,00 mile anything.......

I don't believe that they would even consider not having a Super duty tranny fluid changed for 100k. Allison voids there warranty if you don't service at 25 or 30k. And there A tried and true tranny.

Actually according to my dealer and the maintenance schedule, the trans service is 150,000 miles. Coming from 2 Ram trucks that needed service every 30k I’ll say 150 is a relief but I don’t know if I’ll go that far with mine.

That

That’s perfect it will be traded in by then ??

But Allison hasn't won LeMans.

This dealer is really cutting his own throat. Besides not making smart recommendations for their customer they are losing a lot of maintenance revenue for the dealership. Setting up a good Dealer Recommended Maintenance menu brings customers back in and gives them the ability to keep their customers vehicles in great condition while improving their profitability and covering expense. Again 150k interval for trans service is a recommendation from the manufacturer and a good dealer would offer the Features, Advantages and Benefit of servicng sooner. Too often it's the Sales side of the Manufacturer that pushes long maintenance intervals to push the lowering of Cost of Ownership. This isnt new to their marketing ploy. Too often Sales has more pull than Engineering.

Keep in mind we are still driving on new and relatively untested transmissions. I'm going for 50k miles to be safe especially since it runs 200+ degrees.

I am going for 30k like I did with my 6.4l and get lifetime protection from BG.

BG is a first and foremost a marketing company. They make mediocre fluids, but have a killer backend participation program for service departments that motivates them to sell their additives, flushes, and other potions. The parts manager gets paid to add it to services, and the technicians get paid to put it in.

If I had to guess, I'd say at least 20% of the cost goes to dealership kickbacks.

I have a friend that owns a couple Transmission stores. He says at least every 50,000 with filter, 30,000 if you pull. Says 100,000 is a marketing number. Mainly looked at by Fleet buyers. Showing lower operation cost.

It's not a marketing number so much as it's an EPA number. The EPA doesn't want waste fluids, so they demanded interval increases from manufacturers, which in turn led to development of better fluids.

The EPA doesn't care if your transmission only lasts 90,000 miles. To them it's better than replacing the fluid every 30,000 miles. Their way means one-third the waste fluid and one-third the opportunity for spills.

Absolutely very far from the truth! They are not a marketing company what so ever. Yes they do market their products like any other good business. They do offer spiffs to employees that sell their product but this is not a practice in all repair shops it is sold in. I had 21 dealerships on their programs and we did not allow spiffing of any employees. The distributor did offer great training at no charge and it wasnt just about their products , it was about the Automotive Service world and what the effects of our available fuel have on our vehicles. As a matter of fact Toyota does not recommend additives but when they had issues like most manufacturers with carbon build up in intakes and valves they Researched the products avaikable and found the BG fuel induction products to work the best! Toyota then sent a Bulletin stating this to all of their Dealers on whatbto use and how and the best part, They sent each Dealer the "BG" Tools to perform the service. This bulletin uses the product name BG . Again I will say Toyota doesnt recommend the use of additives, BG distributors did the dance when this bulletin came out. Do some research.
