Under normal circumstances, this would be the height of financial stupidity. But alas, these are not normal circumstances.

I have a coworker that just ordered a 22 Tremor, says he has a trade in price in writing for his 21 such that the round trip will cost him ~$4k.

Feels like it could be worth doing. Anyone else having similar experiences?

truck has been great, but I have one of the 21s without the tilting headrest, which really bothers me. Plus the new screen. But reality is the blue book value of my truck is $71k. If someone is going to pay me $80k, shouldn't I do that all day long?

I did exactly this, ordered ‘21 in early January, delivered late March right after the ‘22 order bank opened. Worked out a deal to trade in ‘21 on ‘22 at time of pickup. Only cost me several thousand $’s for year model price change/tax spread and a couple add on. ‘22 was delivered in late August and dealer honored everything to the tee. I bought X-plan on both and the new Sync 4 platform and screen size totally worth it. I’d probably still do the deal even with a higher cost as you mentioned. The technology upgrade is worth a lot to me. Only disappointment I’ve had is the loss of ambient lights in cup holders, which I am now adding myself thanks to several members assistance on this site!!

My buddy traded in his loaded 21 KR Tremor with 18k miles for a 22 KR Tremor (same options), and put $2k back in his pocket.

I'm going to order a '23 and see if I can work a similar deal for a small cost of upgrading. If not, I'll walk away and the dealer will be happy to have the truck.

My wife say's she's gunna bury me in my truck. So, if that's the case, I know I'll be comfortable and have a smile on my face.

Plenty of opportunities are still out there for these Tremor’s!
Dealers that have them on the lot are asking up to $20,000 over MSRP! And they seem to be getting most of it!

My Dealer, who has been a close personal friend for over 30 years, already knows that I will be upgrading to a new ‘23 as soon as the order bank opens up late next spring or summer.

He has contacted me twice so far when he had a buyer that didn't mind going “used” with less than 6,000 miles and didn‘t want to deal with the never-ending waiting nonsense. He’s offered me the original MSRP amount plus $3,000, and when the time comes for the ‘23, I get it for my usual new vehicle pricing of less than invoice and any factory rebates that I qualify for at the time. (A true “house” deal!)

I had that same deal when I purchased my current one with an additional $4,250 off due to the Special Private Ford offer ($2,750) and three rebates, so I’m in mine for a good price, even considering the sales tax that I paid.

I feel his offers have been fair with me, and he still makes a good pop on the sale of it. The numbers made sense, but I wasn’t ready to cut loose with mine. But if he was to call me and make the same offer again, I’ll probably jump on it.

It’s my understanding that used vehicle prices have dropped since their high this summer but based on what you’re hearing it sounds like it still might be worth doing a new deal.
Sure, overall, the stats indicate that. But our Tremor’s are definitely a niche item and the market value prevails over the book value every day of the week. 😉

Finally am getting some numbers on this deal. I bought my 21 in March for $75k with x-plan. Trade in value is ~$78k. MSRP had not moved but a few hundred dollars so figured I could put some money in my pocket.

Turns out Ford has meaningfully increased invoice pricing by ~$3k or so, and therefore x-plan pricing such that I’ll about break even on this. Still worth doing, but a little disappointing.

I’m waiting for 23, with a possibility of an interior refresh.

I sat down with the dealer ran numbers and it would have been great $$$. But I did not like the 6 month wait, and I need my truck for work.

@Jacks1019 - FYI not sure what trim level you have, but 22MY Lariats do not have tilting headrests (I know from personal experience). You have to go to a higher trim to get that now... Might be your plan anyway, just thought I would mention it.

Seems like an insane thing to do.

1. You'd have to make a much more material profit for this to be a decent return on time. There are easier ways to make more money.

2. The differences between '21 and '22 are not material. And arguably the '22 is a regression if you're a CarPlay user. You have a bigger screen but a smaller and more cluttered CarPlay interface.

3. A material number of trucks coming off the assembly line have significant issues. If you have a truck in perfect condition, you have to be a special kind of crazy to take the risk on a new truck for no material gain.

4.The 2023 MY release is right around the corner and it appears that it will be a new generation of the Super Duty. It seems silly to me to buy a 2022 at all right now if you don't have to, let alone to trade in a 2021 for one.

In general I can't help but be suspect of the stories I see of people (or people's “friends”) making material profits on these swaps unless I see the receipts. Reads mostly as hearsay or post-hoc rationalization. “Community Adjusted EBITDA.”

This, all day this. When I get a "good trouble-free example" of a vehicle, I hang onto it like grim death.

I’m waiting until the 2029 Model comes out….looking forward to the 600hp and 1600 torque…..plus the 100k mile tires and auto pilot should be fun.
Gonna get the cone of silence too so nobody bothers me while driving!!
