Any comments on tonneau covers?I ordered my F250 Tremor with the factory toneao hard folding cover. Does anybody have an opinion re the quality of this cover?
Agreed!I think picking the truck was easier then deciding on a bed cover.....?
Very satisfied with my Retrax and works well with my RTT and Yakima supports.Agreed!
I WANT something as waterproof as possible, stout enough for me to stand/sit in folding chair on, with tracks upon which I can mount racks, RTT, etc. Relative ease of removal also desirable, but I won't always be on outdoor adventures. Most of the time, I just need a large, secure, weatherproof trunk.
I had an original Undercover one-piece on a work truck circa 2006 that was fairly waterproof, easy 2min removal with a buddy, and could support a team using it to access a second story balcony. I was informed by Undercover today that their RidgeLander series covers are discontinued for all makes/models trucks. I thought that might be the perfect compromise between Diamondback HD and Retrax Pro XR. I don't like that Diamondback can't be opened while stuff mounted on top. Conversely, I don't know if I can stand/sit atop the Retrax like I could the Diamondback. Any of y'all have experience with both? Is one or the other more watertight? Obviously, both cost more than I'd like to spend. I apologize for the long explanation of my thought process and appreciate any available insight. I'm open to arguments for other choices, as well.
Biggest downside to the G2 is you’re not supposed to close the tailgate when the tonneau cover is closed. Folds up the seal.Old thread but I hear the Bak Flip G2 is pretty much VHC3Z-99501A42-N from ford..... I was looking into Bak Flip MX4 but I live in NWT Canada and shipping is killer, but I can get the Ford one for a decent price through my dealer.
I think I'll be happy with the Ford one (G2) .... I see the videos on Ford and G2 ones and the cover does need to be prop open to close the gate, but I see it being no biggie..... I only access the full bed if on vacation, getting big items at store or dump runs.Biggest downside to the G2 is you’re not supposed to close the tailgate when the tonneau cover is closed. The MX4 allows you to close the tailgate even if the cover is fully closed. Handy for when you drop the tailgate to quickly grab something out of the back.
My Fibermax that I’ve had for 6 years is like the G2 in that regard. Not the end of the world, but it does get annoying having to always open the cover a bit before closing the tailgate. And if someone else closes things up for you, you usually have to correct it.
That’s when the cover needing to be open to close the tailgate is the most tedious though. If you’re opening up the cover anyways to access the bed then you can close it correctly. Open up only the tailgate to quickly put something in or take something out day to day and you’re having to open the cover every time just to close back up.I think I'll be happy with the Ford one (G2) .... I just spoke to a buddy of mine that works at Ford parts at my dealer, he said he can get the MX4 but he tries to sell the OEM brand... tomorrow he'll give me a price on it... Ford OEM is 1300.00ish Canadian, I'm assuming the MX4 will be around 1500-1700That’s when the cover needing to be open to close the tailgate is the most tedious though. This is particularly noticeable if you have a bed divider (either Ford official or just a 2x10 going across) since the back of the bed is so accessible without stuff sliding forward, so only opening the tailgate should be all that’s necessary.
Again, lived with mine for 6 years and hasn’t been a dealbreaker by any stretch. But unless it’s a pretty significant price hike you’re looking at the MX4 would be worth it IMO.
Sounds good! Curious what the final price will end up being, but for me that would be worth it. Plus the other finishing touches the MX4 has.I just spoke to a buddy of mine that works at Ford parts at my dealer, he said he can get the MX4 but he tries to sell the OEM brand... tomorrow he'll give me a price on it...
