Got a random thought, rant, rambling, or something that nobody else would probably care about?

Post it here.

Not that anyone would care...

I'll go first.

Been waiting years for the stupid Google streetview car to drive by and update their pics of my street and low and behold, when I least expected it, they drive by yesterday evening.......and now I'll be immortalized on google street view.....in my front yard......on my mower......in my pajamas....🤬

Get off my lawn

I’ll put forth a rant about a nitpicky thing that is somehow one of the biggest pet peeves in my life.

When getting turn by turn directions from Apple or Google Maps, they hide the next turn until you’re within 10 miles of it. They just say “Continue for X miles” until you hit that threshold.

What the fuck else am I going to do? Turn before the next turn because you didn’t explicitly tell me to continue on the same road?

Meanwhile I can’t sanity check the next turn to make sure it aligns with my expectations - computers can, in fact, be wrong sometimes. I can’t reference road signs referring to that next turn (maybe as a town name, lane information, or more) well in advance.

All so it can tell me to do what I would do anyways. Continue on the same road.

In a similar vein, these apps have the ability to show the turn after the next one. Yet they inexplicably hide that information unless the app deems the turns are close enough together.

Well screw you. Quite often the turns are farther apart than that threshold and it would be invaluable to have that extra information for lane positioning. Especially when it often takes an extra few seconds after a turn before the system moves to the next one.

One of the most fundamental skills of driving is rejecting unnecessary information. Let me, the driver, choose to reject that information rather than the app being presumptuous and rejecting it on my behalf.

I have fun with taking a different route than the GPS advises just to make it work a little harder and compute a new route. Its my way of keeping balance with the IT...

my maps thing loves to say “proceed to the route” when you start off. Ok… so I just supposed to go where I’m supposed to go?! Thanks for the help you stupid computer.

Oh, and the mileage countdown to the next step that turns out to be “just stay on the road”. I waited an hour for that insight!

Messing with you here - computers are never wrong, but the lazy POS that program them are often mistaken.

Cars with red rear turn signals. And even more so if those rear turn signals are also the brake light. Drives me up a freaking wall. 3 wire systems agitate me to no end. I don't know why, i can't explain it. But it pisses me off.

I'm with you on just doing what I want to spite the GPS, than I start talking back to her and making smart remarks like she even cares. 🤪

You are spot on! Damn things always do exactly what you tell them to do, not what you want them to do!

So much this. I was unreasonably happy when I realized my Tremor had dedicated amber turn signals in the rear.

I prefer Google Maps but I hate when they give me multiple route options, I select the one I want and then without asking me at some point en route it decides to reroute me on another route without asking me or notifying me of the change. Why even give me an option if Google is going to do what it deems to be better anyway? It really irritates me.

I’d like the option of driving on paved roads only. Ever tried following a gps route through eastern Kansas?
I'm actually here right now. Right in dead center of the state. Got here on Sunday for my first time ever in Kansas. Boy, you are not kidding.
