Hey guys it’s time for me to finally get out of this liberal nightmare they call CA, refuse to let my
Kids grow up here...narrowed it down to Texas or Tennessee...leaning towards Tennessee though, we like Franklin Tennessee or collierville and Texas not sure the city yet, just wondering if you guys had opinions/experience in these states..thanks in advance guys ?

Texas is humid as hell in the supper so I go back to my main home in Montana. They say by 2035 Texas will grow up to 20 million new residents. Tennessee is beautiful and Franklin is awesome.
If you choose Texas. Fredericksburg, Kerrville, San Marcos, and Boerne are nice places. This is hill County

I have lived in both. Eastern Tennessee is nice, very nice. I would only move to eastern TN if TN was an option, just my opinion. Tennessee as a whole has A LOT of crime, especially western Tennessee (Memphis/Nashville etc).
I lived in Austin, Round Rock, and Mckinney TX. IT IS HOT, and LOTS of people in Texas. I really liked McKinney/Frisco/Plano area, great school systems....and hill country of TX is nice (west of Austin). Texas has high property taxes though, keep that in mind.

Personally, I would choose TN...eastern TN, it's very nice, people are wonderful and nice. But TN schools systems are not the best.
Just my opinion based off living in both of those states with kids.

Be wary, Texas will soon become a Blue state, if that has any bearing on your decision. So many Oregon/CA people have moved here, it's much more liberal than it was when I moved here 15 years ago. Austin has become a liberal cesspool with all of the Mayors policies. Fortunately, the state government is still very conservative, for the time being.

I hate to hear this. Makes me sick to my stomach. I had a feeling it was happening but hearing another person say it makes it hurt.

Agreed. I work for the Texas Legislature, so I get a slightly different perspective than most other people.

Texas is definitely the choice! Texas has a lot of space, and great places to live. I am in Houston; and we are a melting pot of many different cultures, and I LOVE it! I was born and raised here. I have traveled all over. Boerne is a great small town. Close to San Antonio without being in the big city. We do not have a state income tax, pretty darn good.

If I had to, I could move to South Carolina (Charleston) but I would hope to not have to do leave this great state!

Franklin, TN is also a great town. However I prefer the people in Texas.

Come on over; we'll meet you at the border with a cowboy hat and a gun when you move here!

I am looking at Eastern TN as well, taxes are awesome, people are great and land is cheap and property tax is cheap.... and no vehicle inspections and cheap plates as well... not stupid registration fees that most states have

Agreed. The whole blue immigrant wave is startling me quite a bit. HD65 flipped blue a couple years ago, and it looks like it will stay that way. Fortunately, my district (HD106) still votes very solidly red, so I'm not too concerned about my area. Despite that, I hope that the current legislature can ram in enough cover to make it hard for the opposition in the event the state does turn completely blue. Considering this is not a political forum, I will leave it at that.

This is one of the reasons why I moved to a suburb neighborhood as close to the sticks as possible. I, like the op, was originally from Kalifornia. I was literally turning into a crazy man before I moved to America 4 years ago. I am tired of big city politics and love the feel of more rural living. I have a feeling I'll be moving one more time before I roll myself into a grave, and that last time will be a move far into the sticks. I would've done that already, but I also like the idea of making money in my career field, so I kinda have to stick by urban areas for now.

As far as TX or TN is concerned, I can't help you with that since I've never been to TN. I'll just say that I have zero problem with hot humid weather here in TX. For some reason, my body doesn't care much about it at all. Of course, you might be in a different situation. I say you should come scout out the area (especially Denton or Tarrant County... hint hint) when the weather is at its worst. That way you will know if you can really live here for years to come. My first visit to Texas was in July when the air felt like soup. At that point, I figured it wasn't bad at all. In fact, I prefer that over the killer death rays of Kali sun any day of the week. Steaming vs baking. Take your pick on how to get cooked by summer.

I live in the Memphis area (about 40 mins from collierville) IMO don't move here. The cost of living is super cheap and it's a good life, plenty of things to do. However the crime is way too bad, and random, for someone to move here. 330 murdered last year and 82 interstate shootings. It's crazy how random it is. Collierville is a super nice city, but the hood don't care and they are mobile. Crime happens everywhere in this area.

I'd like to move to Texas if my job didn't make it so damn hard to move.

I live 2 miles from Coullierville and it is a somewhat decent city when compared to Memphis. I actually bought my Tremor from Landers Ford there. However, it is 60% like Memphis and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere that is remotely 1% compared to Memphis. People here are rude and the violence is unbelievable. I’m counting down the days till I get to move. Franklin has a much higher cost of living. Have a look at Knoxville. I lived in Knoxville and surrounding cities for 38 years and loved it.

This is why I’m hoping more conservatives move here. ?

Strokintremor, If you enjoy fishing and hunting Texas is the state for you. You can fish year round if you are close to the gulf salt water fishing is big in Texas. If you have children in school the Austin and Dallas area districts are the finest in the state. The weather is hot and humid for the exception of last week. I have never leaved in TN I’m sure its a great state too for fishing and hunting. Good luck!

I'd pick TN hands down. TX is awesome but too hot, too flat.

TN has easy access the the great smokey mountains. Very green, lots of trees, some snow at higher elevations.

I'd rather be further east than Franklin, but being near Nashville would have its perks. Have you considered a suburb of Knoxville? The TN/NC border area is gorgeous.

I too, need to GTFO of Cali.

I work in a very specialized area of finance, and unless I win powerball or completely change careers, I need to be in either LA or NYC, both of which depress the shit out of me if I think about it.

I lived in Clarksville TN just NW of Nashville 14 years......great roads, NO state income tax......NO personal property tax on vehicles every year.....cheap real estate.....close enough to attend Titans and Predator games (30-45 Min) I owned a 2300 SQ FT house on 1.1 acre in a subdivision with an HOA...my taxs were 1100 a year!! Great Weather.....Loved middle TN.....and really pretty close to anywhere in the country. Downside: No Ocean....and stay far away from Memphis!

Property tax, good stuff. We have a 3150 sq ft house on 5.5 acres and our annual property tax is around $14,200. It's crazy.

FUCK NYC. I’m lovin this thread. I’m trying to find a new location and Tenn and Texas are on my Radar. Along with S Carolina and Florida. Tennessee is top on my list with Texas and S Carolina as #2. Please no one move to NYC area. It’s worse than ever. Mayor Gulliani cleaned up NYC a decade or more ago. De Blasio ruined it. You make crazy money in NYC area but crime , taxes , and the F#%*in Liberals are the reasons I’m getting the heck out of here.
Thanks OP for this thread and thanks to all who chimed in.

The schools in the suburbs of Austin and Dallas are good, the schools in Austin and Dallas are atrocious!
