Tell me about your favorite whiskey or bourbon

Got the green light from the wife to bring the collection out of the closet and into the light! Found a Crate and Barrel cabinet on FB marketplace, added LED light strips to each shelf, and wired them all to a wireless controller. Turned out great if I may say so!

Second pic was taken in the dark with the lights set to about 75%.

Looks great!!!! Fine collection!

What are the thoughts on Traveller and Very Old Barton? I was given one and bought the other after someone said it was decent. What says you?

Travellers is just ok, nothing special. Good mixer.

I wasn't sure, I'd never heard of or seen one, but green seems to be the goto for somebody's rye

Anytime you see the 700ML it’s an international release. Until last year, gold was also a 700ML bottle but Buffalo Trace started bottling for the US market and now we get the 750ML, comparison below with 700ML and 750ML.

ATF recently changed US law to allow 700 ml bottles. While it opens up the market to importers and European distillers who did not want to run a separate bottling for the US market, I am seeing lots of producers going to 700 ml probably to save money….

Down in Savannah finishing up a three week project. Bought the Jura to have in the room since it was something I had not had and was not too expensive. Decent, not very complex; reinforces you get what you pay for. The 12 probably would have been better. The Glendronach I have been looking for a while now and can’t get it in the ABC stores in Virginia. It is really good, a nice Sherry bomb; highly recommend it.

Nice, you got an older bottle of Glendronach which states on the label that they're not dumping a bunch of E150 in it (which is totally unnecessary for sherry bombs like this). Their current marketing team seem to be trying their best to alienate enthusiast customers (with deep-ish pockets) like myself. Enjoy now, it's tough to say what direction this offering will go in the near future.

Speaking of which, Jura is a distillery with a similar but long-standing practice of needlessly dumbing-down what they bottle. As you say, it's decent but could be significantly better. Hard to find in this country but if you happen upon an independent bottling of Jura, grab it.

Hell no, tailgating for Georgia Florida is better than Christmas. I’ll have someone drive me back to the hotel.

I have never tried the green, and I just had gold last month. So tasty. I’d really like to find SFTB, but it’s impossible to find locally. May go secondary, and just suck it up. 😞

I suggest joining a local whiskey club where you can get someone to give you a sample or trade for the bottle.... Or, work your way around to all your local independent liquor stores. You can find them at MSRP if you look enough. It's generally only released once a year and Buffalo Trace drops most of its best releases around the holidays, so now's the right time to keep an eye out for one.

There's just too much of any version of Blanton's out there to justify paying the secondary market prices (current is $200 - $300, market average is $280, MSRP is $150). Worst case, come to Dallas and I'll crack my bottle open 🙂

If you're in Burlington, might stop in to The Whiskey Room or Prohibition Pig in Waterbury Village and see if they have a bottle at the bar.

Love me some Pro Pig! 🐖

If you guys want anything whistle pig I can probably help bring a VT’er.

I am in contact with the state of Vt around bottles - but the only score has been a Russel’s 13. Maybe I can see if they can grab a green label - they can’t do a SFTB. NH did a ghost drop a few months ago in NH. I missed it due to that work thing I do.

We (Vermont) will have the raffle again soon. Last time I won two pappy’s - a 10 & 15 (won = purchase at msrp).

They are still sitting in the basement. Waiting for a special occasion - but they will be drank with friends.

If I come across another SFTB, I'll let you know. I scored the one I have (purchased) at a chain store as a thanks from the store manager for giving him samples from my collection and giving him an itinerary for his bourbon trail trip.

Couple pick ups today…. $30, $45, and $99. I WISH they had more of that WT @ $45!!!! I got the last bottle.

Am I mis-remembering or did you just finish a bottle of the Double Wheat? Time for a restock?
Didn’t finish it but she’s getting very low. Definitely needed a restock.
