‘23 model, just started to receive a tailgate open warning when it isn’t. Two days ago, truck was locked and the alarm went off saying the tailgate was opened, but it wasn’t. The dash warning light now stays illuminated. Anyone had this issue? Still in warranty, but given the tech issues wonder if there’s an easy fix beyond disconnecting batteries and restarting.

Stupid question probably but, have you bumped it inwards? Mine does the same thing when it isn't fully engaged. I assume you have.

Yeah, that was first thing I did, and expected it to resolve it. Mine does that a lot actually. This is the first time it won’t actually ‘lock’, though it is secured.

Sounds like a switch at it's limit. Bet a new switch or an adjustment would fix it. I'm not sure how this is all installed in the tailgate assembly.

Sounds spot on to me. I had an F150 that had this issue with the hood. New switch was the ticket under warranty.

Guess I’ll be headed to dealer. Alarm went off again last night @3:45.

My 2023 tailgate is odd also, but mine randomly opens, locked or unlocked. Never does it at the dealer though.

I’m thinking this is related to a soft update Ford sent to truck on night of 8/3. First alarm went off same night early AM on 8/4. Intermittent at first, but now tailgate shows open all the time now.

If you tailgate ajar message is popping up and the then the red tailgate ajar light is on in the lower right hand corner of your gauge cluster, you can do one check with the tailgate on but lowered.

The sensors are attached to each tailgate clip. With the tailgate down, take your finger and flip each of the two clips shut. Hop in the truck and see if that resolves your tailgate ajar issue. If not, then it's more than it just not closing quite all the way since when the tailgate is down and you flip them shut, they easily close all the way. It is then likely a sensor itself or something else.
Note: Don't forget to hit the tailgate open button, to release both clips, before you close the tailgate. If you slam the tailgate shut with the clips already closed, that would make a heck of a hard stop. Ha.

My 2024 has been giving me tailgate ajar warnings also. If I open it and close it again, it has always gone away, so far.
