Anyone experienced a bad rattle from their sunroof? I tracked it down to the plastic cover that runs from the driver side to the passenger side, between the two panes. It's rattling horribly on the location roads. If I slide the shade back and rest my hand on the plastic cover, the rattle goes away immediately. I could feel a piece of foam with the tip of my finger underneath the cover. I tried pressing up on the cover to see if it had perhaps become unclipped to no avail.

I have some rattle in my 22, as well. I have to get up and play around with it - but it stops when I tilt it up. I think it's lube that I need to apply - just been too cold and snowy to tackle. For now I just turn up the music.

Experienced the same rattle this week with mine during this colder weather and isolated it to that plastic piece you're referring to. Plan to put some thin batting material under the plastic piece once the weather gets warmer.

Also on cold days, I have a clicking noise that happens towards the front side of the passenger seat when someone is sitting in it. Doesnt happen in the summer or when the seat is empty.

Happens right before they explode. Make sure you’re wearing your safety glasses…

😉

This is a joke….

I don't see anything in that thread that mentions rattling before it exploded. Not saying it won't happen, but the rattle is caused by the piece of plastic between the two panels, and stops rattling once I rest my hand on it or when it warms up. @Dos Hijas Ranch, mine is doing the same. Hadn't noticed it rattling before the cold weather, but I've only had my truck 1 month and just noticed it rattling on this location road. When I left yesterday, it had warmed up significantly and the rattle was gone.

It's highly annoying. Also does it when I close the door on these colder mornings.

Updated my post to make my sarcasm more clear.

I promise I won’t say I told you so when it explodes.

Do a search. My last truck had the full panel moon-roof and rattled like crazy... UNTIL, I lubricated the seal between the frame and glass with silicone... gone... completely.

Seemed too easy to be true. But it works.

mine just stated doing this. just noticed it this week as the temps have started to drop.
sounds like the rattle is coming from the rear on the passenger side. however, it seems to improve if then sunroof is vented.
any suggestions other than lube?

the irony, my q7 rattles exactly the same way 🤦🏻

I had this. It sounds like the plastic but it's the glass itself. There's a lube you can buy from Ford and you smear it around the seal. Noise gone. I did this about 4 months ago and it's still quiet.

Krytox Gpl-205 1 Oz Tube White:

I see @Optimus took the high road by giving this port the 'winner' and reframing from a lube comment. ;)

You are correct! My experience with lubes tends to be quite the opposite: more lube, more rattle 🤪.

I believe the service manual calls for lube every 30k or so...or maybe that's the wife's Audi...has the same type roof...They need lubed.

So does one just put the lube around the outside of the body or glass? I’m due to do mine. I just pop it up when I get annoyed.

I put it on the seals like mentioned above...sometimes you can buy a few weeks or so if you open it when it's been sitting in the sun and hot...I usually do her car and the truck around beginning of Dec or so when it finally gets cooler here.

I go very lightly with it...In my old expy the excess lube hardened up after about 10 yrs and the tracks are plastic..putting a new sunroof track in Expedition EL is not for the faint of heart..took me 10ish hours...smh..dealer wanted 2k...200 bucks in parts...what you gonna do....lol

I have this rattle I can't pinpoint. Is gone in the summer and less noticeable if the shade is open.

Where exactly are you guys taking about?

For me it’s when the glass is closed and the shade is back. I believe it’s the window where it makes contact with the body of the truck and the rear panel of glass.

my rattle is coming from the passenger rear area. it seems to go away if the front glass is vented. i poked around last night and didn't see anything obvious. the screws are tight. i was thinking i could do the fix that is mentioned in various spots (felt padding on the brackets), but the design is different now. the mount is now one big piece, instead of 3 individual brackets per side.

i ordered some krytox. where exactly are you guys lubing?
