F250 Tremor 7.3L - Lithium Grey
Took me 5 tries to start up my brand new (1100 Miles and 3 weeks old) 7.3L Tremor today.

Each time when pushing the start button the engine ignited but spluttered to a stop after 3 seconds or so as it struggled to find a steady idle.

5th try it started like normal but I could smell abnormal gasoline fumes in the cab. Drove perfectly normal after this as well and started like normal when testing it a couple times during my 1h long drive.

Have anyone else encountered this or have any idea what the problem might be?

Thats disappointing on a new truck, sorry to hear that. I havnt had any similar problems, but I know the 6.2 has had issues like that with the fuel pump and they share the same part. Good luck, those intermittent problems can be tough to figure out, if it totally fails will be much easier to fix.

I have had a very similar issue. 2020 7.3 cclb 4x4. Stock truck. 7800mi. Dealership can’t figure it out. Has left me stranded 3 times, got it started all three times after an hour or two. Replaced the cam sensor and plug wires yesterday, today after driving errands for an hour I tried to leave my house and all it will do is the same turn over and over and over again-won’t start. Dealership had it for two weeks and says there’s nothing they can find, can’t duplicate the issue. I even took videos each time the truck wouldn’t start. 64k truck and now I have to get a rental truck on my own dime. Not happy. If anyone knows anything please post something on here, I’d be much appreciated.

You probably need the fuel pump module. Been an occasional problem for 6.2l(Especially) and 7.3l. Hard to diagnose sometimes. Google search it and it should come up.

Im having the same problems with my truck. Which they say is the fuel pump. And the 6.2 and 7.3 are not the same fuel pump. I have the 7.3 and truck has been at the dealership for 2 months with part
On backorder with no eta of when it will be available.

Have any of you that are experiencing this issue tried shutting off the ignition all together after the first fail to start, then performing a cold start after that. It seems to me that if it's a program problem, as in engine control system boot malfunction, it may not correct itself unless you shut down completely and than reinitiate the start up sequence. If it fails to start and you just keep hitting the button with your foot on the break, whatever is wrong won't correct without a reboot. This may help understand the nature of the problem, program problem or another system issue.
