Speed limiter locked to 120km/h (76mph) WTF?!

2021 7.3l been capped on speed since day one. The dealership which has proven time and time again to be completely useless on any matter gave me the explanation that it was a MyKey restriction. From factory? No dice. I deleted any trace of MyKey from the truck and still no difference. There’s no indication on the dash of any sort of limit in place or that a limit has been reached. The dealership said they can’t do anything about it and have it covered under warranty since there’s no error codes. I’ve researched this relentlessly and cannot find anything like it. Doesn’t matter what driving mode the truck is in, I can press the pedal to the floor and it will not accelerate over 120-123kph (75-76mph). I do have a banks pedal monster installed which isn’t supposed to limit the speed but for the sake of argument I’ve tested it with it unplugged. Still doesn’t make any difference. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

I suggest you call Ford’s customer service number and tell them exactly what is going on. ALL the dealers have a “production representative” from Ford that are assigned to them and are told about anything weird or odd. Corporate WILL help you solve this problem.

Problem was fixed a couple days after original post. I did end up calling customer service as I wasn’t getting anywhere with the dealer and they were no help at all. All they did was relay the message to the dealer and then reported back to me with the same bs spiel. The lady on the other side of the phone could not understand the situation for the life of her and did not understand how frustrated I was with how the dealership was handling it. It was a complete waste of time when the final fix came down to ford engineering emailing the dealer with the exact instructions I provided a few days prior of how to fix the problem which I posted earlier in the thread.

My F150 is capped @ 105 mph

Update: Finally got a call back from selling dealer with a load of bs communicated by the manager through the relatively new rep.
- The truck is too big therefor it’s been limited on speed, sorry we can’t undo that.
- Go ahead and do it yourself it won’t void warranty.
- both fleet and service managers racked their heads together and came up with a law that due to its GVWR (11300lbs) is limited to 120km/hr (75mph) and that it’s normal.

I called a dozen dealerships in and out of province. Not one had come across this issue on any super duty. A couple of them seemed to really want to help and figure out the problem. I was ready to make a days drive to one of them. As the manager called me directly and said to bring it to him and he’d check the PCM for me.

Today I get a call from the service rep from the selling dealer in town and he said he got an email back from ford engineering with the exact instructions I gave them 3 days prior. Truck is in right now, fingers crossed.

Here is the email from Ford Engineering if anyone needs it in the future.
Thank you for this, Im going through this on a fleet of transits we ordered.

Y'all do realize that the factory tires on our trucks, and most of the popular replacements for that matter, are only Q rated (99 MPH)...
...Either way, seems like setting your speed limiter almost 10-15% over the highest rated tire you'd ever find for one of these trucks, seems a bit too Darwin Awardy for my liking.

The rating applies to sustained speeds. Exceeding the speed rating for a short period if time, such as passing, is not a risk to the integrity of the tire.

Here I thought it was bad at 80 MPH because I leg it sometimes so easily. I just changed it with FORScan to 120 MPH and i also set police mode haven tried it yet to see if the change workedbeeen busy with work. As far as warranty goes I have made many FORScan changes and dealer never cared or noticed anything different now if your brick something while changing it then I could see an issue Even if you read it to see what its set at that definitely will not harm warranty. Just been my experience hope it helps.
Is easy in forscan? I looked but couldn't find the speed limiter anywhere. Could you dm me.

It can't be done in FORSCAN, :poop:
Do you know that for fact?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but asking for clarity. A lot of people just repeat what they've read/seen someone else say, without actually knowing it to be fact.

The common repsonse is "you can't do it in forscan" or "you shouldn't do it / its not safe BS". However, there have been iirc, 2 or 3 claims on this forum that it was changed with forscan. A member here had his dealer raise the top speed limiter that was artifically low on his truck. Stands to reason if the dealer can do it, you likely could do it in forscan. I've read a few threads on other forums of doing it in forscan for Transit vans.

I've did some testing with some settings I found mentioned on other forums, but didn't have any success. I do suspect that it likely can be done with forscan, but that would probably be guarded info.

The clown-world Karens will just shout the discussion down because they don't like it (and if they don't like it, no one should)
Someone with a tuner business will never tell because they want folks to buy their tuner.
Forum owners probably wouldn't allow the info to be shared (for long) out of fear of getting in trouble / sued.
A "forscan guru" on any forum probably wouldn't share the info (if they knew) for the same reasons as a forum owner.

Removing the top speed limiter likely falls into the same bucket of "safety devices" - ABS, Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, etc.
That branch is too thin for most people to walk out on.

The easiest way to override the limiter is to simply put on bigger tires and not reset anything. I have 37s so 35.1/36.5 = 4% speedometer error, so now it will run 99mph.

I have looked throughout FORSCAN on my last couple of trucks and can't find anything in there related to the speed limiter. It might be in FDRS but I didn't really look for it when I had the limited time upgrading my SYNC. So far a tune is the only way to get rid of it on the 2020 F350 and the 2022 I will have to drive to Michigan since Livernois is the only tuner I have found that can do the 2022 (emissions compliant) and they state there are some additional processes that can only be done at their facility for 2022 trucks.

Thank you sir for the clarification. (y)

Looking again at previous posts in this thread, I just noticed info in post #25 linked below, that I beleive I may have overlooked when I tested previously. It's been long enough that I don't remember what settings I actually did test, but looking in PCM Module Configuration in forscan, and reading the info in the pic from post #25 carefully, I wonder if its staring us right in the face?

I found it in forscan. Well, something pertaining to speed limits and whatnot. I changed it to the highest value possible (in the plain English bit). Can only go 95-6 flat and 100 on a downhill (tall bridge). So, I don't think it works without some other adjustments 🤷

I barely go over 84 normally with anything I drive but sometimes I get a little leadfooted so no one needs to tell me that it's dangerous in these big trucks🤣🤣😉
