So I've always wanted to do something like this, but just never got around to it. I was randomly browsing craigslist and other sites looking at gun safes for my growing collection of firearms and came across this. It's a Safe from 1923, and was installed in an actual speak easy in a house in Los Feliz (Hollywood Hills). The house was built in 1905, and the new current owner turned the speak easy into a recording studio and put the safe up for sale. I'm just going to clean this bad boy up, and move the shelving around, install some warm white led lights, stock it with tequila & whiskey then enjoy. This will stay in my office for now until it's ready to come home, as this beast weights about 1,000lbs. Love the patina of the safe, it's hard to tell but there is black pin striping on it which I may have someone come re-do.

I'll post some more pictures once I get it setup.

What a find - beautiful piece of furniture and great idea to keep its purpose close to its history! I love this kind of stuff!

My two daughters are getting into their older teens, and my wife had me figure out how to lock up the liquor (mostly because of friends, and friends of friends). So I did.

Your find is incredible. The history behind it, and your intended usage is brilliant. I wish I'd seen something like your idea before putting that lock on a flimsy particleboard cabinet. Post some pics of this when you get it how you want it.

I also have to say, let's hear more about that growing collection of gun safes...

Thanks! Can't wait to get it in place and get it stocked. I'm going to do a brick veneer on the wall its going on to give it the speakeasy look.

I just bought an M&P Shield and a Glock26 for concealed carry.. I already have a Keltec KSG, few rifles and shot guns.

Ahhhh... ?! Okay. I interpreted that wrong. You've got a growing collection of firearms, which is moving you to need a gun safe - not a growing collection of gun safes themselves. I was like, "He bought this safe instead of buying another gun safe for his gun safe collection." Then, "Wait, he collects gun safes?" Finally, "I want to hear more about gun safe collecting!"

I'm so pro-2A that I fell for the thought of 'gun safe collecting' as being a real thing. And right now, I'm still wondering if there's old and valuable gun safes.

Dude I thought the exact same thing on his original post. ? I’m now thinking about how I could find and old safe and an old liquor safe and refurb them to match. ?
