My family and I had a slight addiction to Disney cruises prior to Covid. With 3 cruises canceled we decided to visit Utah in October 2020. Needless to say we had the time of our lives. We visited Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point and also did some mountain biking, zip lining, and drove some trails.

Since that trip we have acquired a pop up camper and just recently our Tremor with the intentions of spending 2 weeks out in Utah.

Instead of staying in Moab this time around we decided to make Kenab, Utah our home base for our next trip in April. We will be staying at Coral Pink Sand Dune State Park. Our understanding is that Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the Grand Canyon will all be within 2 hours from Kenab.

Does anyone here have experience with this area of Utah? After finding Shafer Trail and Potash Road as an amazing way to get from Canyonlands back over to Moab, I can't help but wonder if there are unpaved roads or trails leading to or from Kenab to any scenic areas, National Parks or National monuments?

Toroweap looks interesting as does Point Sublime. If nothing else, I might take a day and run up to Shafer Trail and Long Canyon Road.

Also, say what you will but my biggest fear is getting pinstriping. I will probably cry like a baby if my Agate Black paint gets scratched by a tree. Most of the trails that I come across seem more suitable for something narrow like a CJ/TJ Jeep or side by side. I am not at the point where I can justify doing long term damage to the Tremor for a few minutes of fun but I don't want that fear to keep me from getting on the trail (once vetted of course).

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Coral Pink is nice but I wouldn't consider it as a commuter base for Bryce. Kodachrome possibly. There are are innumerable awesome boondocking sites within mere minutes north of Bryce! There's plenty around Kanab to occupy you for a week at least!

I would definitely try to snag a site in Kodachrome for a good 3 nights, at least.

Oh man, Kodachrome looks amazing! We landed on Coral Pink due to being able to book 2 weeks there. Campsites are in short supply these days. We are considering boondocking closer to some of the National Parks during our visit but wanted a guaranteed place to go should the boondocking places happen to be full.

RVing is definitely experiencing a supply and demand issue right now (kind of like our trucks).

I'm planning our first trip to Moab, the Canyonland area. We don't have our truck yet but the tremor is shipped since 2/21 and is expected from my dealer any day this week. We also have a pop-up trailer(opus). We plan on driving down from Washington on 4/11. I'm hoping to have someone to hit the trails with once down there.

Kanab is a cool place. You'll have fun.

The easy answer is yes there are connecting trails to places. Its going to take some research to get the information you may be looking for. To give you a few ideas...
-Grand Staircase Escalante, has lots of places to explore in your area.
-Burr trail also.
-https://outsiders.zone/ is a cool site that the atv/sxs riders use. But there are places that are good for the tremor to do what it wants to do. Just go through the trails in the area with the trail view to see if its wide enough for your truck.

Southern Utah has a ton of random roads. They were cut for various reasons. A small mine, timber, grazing and so on and they have been there a long time. And now days it may be mainly used for hunting in the fall. It may be scenic to travel but only has a BLM/FS number for a name. It also may be a dusty sagebrush flat that for us living here is boring. I'm sure a good map would have these trails but they won't have a special destination. Its just a trail.

Go crazy but no pinstripes!
