Awaiting: ‘21 F250 Lariat Tremor 7.3L
Howdy y’all!

Anyone have experience selling a car to Carvana? I’m still awaiting my Tremor, but want to explore other options than trading in at the dealer. I just got an online quote and it was a very good offer, only about $1,250 less than its retail value. Should I consider this ’too good to be true’ or has anyone sold their vehicle via carvana? Is it as easy as they make it sound online and do they actually honor their online quotes so long as the info youve provided them is accurate?

As always, thanks for everyones insight!

I just checked out selling my '16 F150 and CarMax will give me like $1800 more than Carvana! Probably gonna sell it on my own as I should get at least $3K more on my own. My buddy just sold his truck to CarMax. 15 minutes and he had a check in hand! How much easier could it get, unless there isn't one near you? They were scared silly he would leave. He was scared silly that they would come to their senses. He got stupid money for a BTS old Toyota!

I considered private sale for my trades but when dealership offered within 1000 of the private offer price I took the trade. At least with the trade you save on the taxes(PA) in the value of the trade. So if the Tremor costs 60K and my trade is worth 50K I pay taxes on the 10K difference.

I will actually use the CarMax offer on my dealer. If he is close then I would rather he make something off it than CarMax. The hassle of selling privately is worth a grand or two. Everybody wants a super deal and with so many outright crooks out there ...

Yup I have factored the tax savings into the equation. My truck is showing $37,050 via clean retail on NADA and CarMax offered me $33,900 and Carvana offered me $35,779. I know my dealer wont offer me any more than $33,500 so if you add the ~$1,150 in tax savings I would need to sell it for $34,650 to make it more lucrative than trading in at the dealer. Carvana gets me another 1k and eliminates that part of the process once my Tremor arrives. While I may be able to get another $1,000-$1,250 in a private sale it does save me some time/headache going through carvana. Is that time worth $1,250? Not sure...

Anyways that’s where my heads at now. Just dont want to get jacked up for carvana and have it be a scam...

Yup - I’m thinking the same thing...as I say in my post below I could get another grand from private sale but I dont think thats worth the headache of private sale...

I tried both with my 2019 f-350 34000 miles and they’re coming in at mid 30’s. Dealer on phone with pics and vin was at 48k. Not sure what I’m doing wrong online:)

You're not doing something right unless F350s are now worth less than F150s. Carvana offered me 34,600 for my '16 Lariat with 32,000 miles. CarMax offered 36,400! '16 Lariats not as well equipped as mine with way more miles are going for 38-40! I bet they would sell mine for 41-42.

Wife and I both just sold to Carmax, after receiving lower online quotes from Carvana. Both of us buying new through pricing programs, and did not want to deal with trade-in negotiations at new dealers. Carmax took about an hour and a half, per how busy the place was on the day we visited.

I was in the same dilemma as I am waiting for my order to show up. Got an offer from carmax but ended up selling my vehicle privately. Got $7500 more than what carmax offered. That’s a lot more money on the down payment. If you have a truck you will have no problems selling it privately during these times. Trucks are like gold right now. Now I’m hoping my truck shows up early. Estimated delivery 4/7.

Are mid-sized trucks selling like gold as well, or just the super deuties? I have a 2018 canyon denali.

Also I wonder why carvana offered me more than carmax...sounds like its been the opposite for everyone else.

Did carmax honor the online quote or try to haggle you into something less when you got there?

Tax savings...? The joys of living in California.

Can’t speak to much for smaller pickups but HD trucks are gold right now.

I was thinking about the same thing. Didn't think of car max though.
Do I have to take off all my decals and un pink my F150 badges be I sell?
