Hey Guys/Gals!

So while in the woods hunting, I noticed this random nut in the bed of the truck. It's paint matched but I could not find where it went. I jumped around back there and nothing seems loose. Any ideas??

1. Have you carried anything in the bed of your truck that it might have come off of.
2. I'd check all the suspension parts under your truck, shocks, swaybar, etc. I just have no idea how any of that could have ended up in the bed.
3. Your chevy friends put it there and are screwing with you trying to make you think your truck is falling apart.

Nothing in the bed that was blue. I did a brief check underneath but didn't notice anything obvious. I'll have to do another check in the morning. I've been driving it with no issues so far.

Tailgate? Don't have my truck yet, so not sure. 🤷

@Blade420 Play has the best guess so far IMO about the tailgate. In the bed itself I can't think of anything that would have an exposed nut.

Another possibility, if you run with an open bed, is someone tossed it in there. Not unheard of for people to toss random things into people's open truck beds.

I believe it fell off of Skylab in 1979 and landed in the back of your truck.

I did check the tailgate. Didn't notice any exposed bolts.

I do run an open bed for now. Haven't ordered my cover yet.

I tossed the nut in with the change and if I find it, I'll have it ready. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone did toss it in there. But the fact that it's paint matched leads me to believe otherwise.

I can't think of where that might come from... as I don't recall seeing any bolts that are input from outside into the bed. Plus, I would think the bed is sprayed before anything is added or installed.

Definitely not the tailgate as mine was removed as part of the line-x install. The nuts that are used inside the tailgate are, i believe called, castle nuts that have built-in washers and are only the 2 that hold the tailgate panel in place. The one you showed could be it, but the lip around the bottom are a bit larger on mine. You'd have to remove the access panels from the tailgate to get to those. I don't recall seeing any other nuts on the inside of the tailgate.

I wonder if it an extra one that was dropped in the bed during assembly of another area of the truck that dislodged while you were driving around.

Any chance you park in a garage with a garage door opener? That looks to me like some hardware from the arm that goes from the track to the door. Just a thought.
I should have read it better…hard to believe that your garage door opener hardware would be paint matched to your truck. 🤦‍♂️

Considering that this looks like a prevailing torque lock nut, I'd guess it has never been installed on anything. They don't loosen up and fall off by themselves. I agree that is is just a random nut.
