Rain Sensing Wipers

The auto-wipers on my 2020 sucked, to put it mildly. The auto-wipers on my 2005 Z4 work flawlessly. From my understanding, if the auto-wipe is turned on in the main menu, the stalk's increases increase the sensitivity level and if turned off in the main menu, they work just like old school intermittent wipers, adjusting the time between wipes.

I came across a thread about the sensor being an issue, popped off my cover and it wasn't even clipped on one side, half hanging down. I ordered a new pad, pulled out all apart and put it back together. Now, they finally work as they should.

It'd be nice to turn off the one-wipe upon startup, though. If the truck is in a garage or carport, there is usually no dew to wipe in the morning. Basically it's just tearing apart a dry wiper for no reason.
Is that a thing? Neither my old truck or the 24 do that.

Mine does it with courtesy wipe off. I always thought courtesy wipe controlled the delayed wipe after using the sprayers.
Weird, as long as my courtesy wipe is off, the only time I get a swipe at start up is if there is dew or frost on the windshield

2024 with courtesy wipe off, wipers on auto.. Always a wipe on start up, hate it 😡 So I leave auto wipers off until it’s actually raining and they seem to work just fine.

2023, Courtesy Wipe on in system only wipes when it senses buildup on the windshield. If your wiper stalk is one click down (in Auto setting) it'll give a courtesy wipe at start up every time. I don't leave mine in the auto setting until it's needed when it's actually raining. I feel like I haven't seen rain this year lol.

I turned rain sense for wipers off in the settings menu and also turned off the auto high beams. I basically turn off all nanny aids, I just want my truck to be fully in my control. I wish the trucks could be ordered without any of the electronic stuff like lane keeping, auto cruise distance adjust, etc as I dislike all of it.

It can. It's the XL model. ;)

I'm about as old school as they come, baby Boomer to boot!, But love the rain sensing wipers, auto hi beam, and adaptive cruise. Don't care for lane keeping, and will never have a self driving vehicle.

Same. Wish lariat had come with the ACC. It came with and I use all the other things though. Except lane assist only because it's not very good at its job 🤣

I’m looking at adding ACC to my non-ultimate Lariat. Did NOT want anything electronic having access to the truck’s steering. If I can get ACC figured out, this pickup will be as close as possible to a perfect fit for our mission over the next 10 years.

HUD is the only other thing I’d like to have but if the trade off is a truck that doesn’t try to be smarter than the driver, I’m 100% good without it. Automated braking is one thing. Automated steering? GTFOH 😂

Granted the XL is close to my perfect truck for elimination of all the electronic interference I do not want. However, there is a lot of stuff on my Lariat that I really like A LOT. Leather seats, the 12" display, cameras, stuff like that really helps with how I use my truck. If I could get an XL equipped like that, done deal. But I can't. For those guys who like all that stuff, great! At least most of it can be turned off. All good.

Alright, haven't checked the sensor yet, but after all of your feedback I've learned that it's more about managing expectations. I'm used to kicking the wipers on pretty quick when it starts spitting but I've found a little patience is key here (shocking). If I just wait, once the system "notices" it's raining, which is later than I'd prefer but before I have hard time seeing at distance, it seems to do a pretty good job. If I try and rush it by clicking the dial up a notch and back, it's more sporadic.

The wipers randomly going full tilt in the mist is hilarious but hasn't happened in a few days. I've done nothing different other than what I described above. Hopefully this helps some other newcomers to these moderns spaceships (average 10-15yrs between trucks - last one was an '09 150).

They work well for me on the '22 Tremor and my wife's '20 440 bimmer, but can be somewhat unpredictable on my '09 Volvo XC70, on occasion deciding a light mist requires the most aggressive wiping speed.
The sensors work by light being obscured by water droplets or something to that effect, and my XC's windshield is definitely all sorts of hazed from minor impacts and abrasion.

Just curious and hope no-one takes this the wrong way. For those of you who are happy with the auto rain sensing on Fords, have you experienced other vehicle auto wipers? Ie: GMC Denali’s, BMW, Audi, Cadillac, etc.? Seems all these manufactures have it down. One should NEVER have to adjust the stalk speed control when using auto. Hence the “auto”..lol…

With the $$ Ford extracts from us for these trucks it’s the little things that make difference. Like $2.50 plastic T’s for the vacuum hubs that break if a rock hits it? On a vehicle marketed as “Off Road Capable?” Hmm…

I would still buy the truck again though😁
