Need to order a hitch and shackles for my Tremor before I actually take delivery. Buying a 7.3 F350.

The 7.3's are the 2.5" hitch, correct?

Want to order a B&W, and I'm guessing the 7" drop?

Going to order some Crosby shackles. Go for the 5/8" or 3/4"? Weren't some guys having issues with the 3/4" shackles fitting?

Main use is for an inline snowmobile trailer. Not nothing, but certainly not a 15K TT or anything right now.

Yessir, 2.5” receiver, I’d look at the Rhino hitch.

I ordered my shackles and other recovery gear from Rhino USA.

As stated, 2.5" hitch for the gassers. I have the weigh safe 8" drop and a set of hammerlocks.

I have an assortment of Rhino USA recovery gear and recall some members using the shackles for the trailer chain/receiver connection. Just know that recovery shackles are not meant for towing. The pin just screws in and are meant to be used for the recovery under tension. Just hanging out on the back of the truck, the pins can work loose.

Purchased a ceracoated aluminum 8” drop Weighsafe open box new off of Amazon for $150 off retail. It will meet my needs and make me aware of my tongue weight as long as the scale works. Need to stand on it and see if it registers my added winter weight.

I recall there being an issue with the size or shape of the safety chain cutouts but have not looked it over yet(still have some miles to put on before I can tow). Why won’t a simple 1/2” quick link work for safety chain chain connection?

Gotcha, good info. I don’t use the shackles for towing, they’re just part of my two recovery bags. I should look into Hammerlocks though.

Works great, exactly what I’m running.

I’m also a big fan of the BW Tow and Stow. 7” drop is my preference.

Another ? for B&W Stow&Go 7”. Perfect for just about any trailer. I’ve not seen the need for shackles to attach the chain hooks to. If you come up from the bottom, then forward, the hooks go in and come out very easy.

I’m not sure on the hitch size for the 7.3, but I am glad to see you picking Crosby Shackles. As you know they are USA made, certified and tested. I wish people would stay away from the China made junk masked by “Designed in the US” especially when it comes to safety. Buy once, cry once! You might consider Hammerlocks versus shackles. I know a lot of people pick these as an option and you don’t have to worry about the pin coming loose or theft. I believe Crosby also makes them; they are what I will be using when my truck arrives. Not sure of the size you will need. Best of luck!

Agree 100%. I've not needed to do anything special to hook the safety chains to the hitch.

Thank you AI. I AM looking at the black aluminum weigh safe 8” drop. Anyone have any reviews on this? Any advantage/disadvantage going aluminum verse steel? I live in an area with allot of salt and grime during the winter.

Can you provide a model number for weigh safe or a reference number or something to identify with on amazon? Thanks

My experience with ceracoat is limited to bang sticks. That being said it is a good coating but banging around in a receiver hitch will likely showcase its weaknesses. BTW the warranty states that the coating is not covered...
I only went with the Aluminum one to save weight. As you might have already seen some of these things can get stupid heavy. Not that it is a bad thing if it means strength. I know what I'm going to tow will be well within the engineering tolerance this hitch.
Regarding the rating, the manufacturer states max GTW is 18.5K lbs for 2.5version using 2 5/16 ball but pretty sure I saw 14.5K lbs stamped on the drop hitch. I'll have to chat with customer service about that.

The Weigh Safe is intriguing. All aluminum with the tongue weight scale for the same money basically as the B&W? For real? I might have changed my direction on that. Wonder how well that scale on the side ages, and its accuracy?

I originally asked about shackles in the OP as I was under the impression that a person needed SOMETHING in order to be able to hook up safety chains with the Ford SD receiver. If you guys say nothing is required then I'm certainly not screwing with shackles. I don't have the truck in front of me, and I've never owned a Ford SD, so I didn't know.

I'm replying to myself here...
I called weighsafe after work and spoke to them about the max tow weight discrepancy.
They stated the one I purchased from Amazon is the exact same drop hitch they are currently manufacturing. Last year they recertified the hitches capacity to 18500 from 14500 and started stamping that new rating into the hitch.
The hitch I bought was made right before the new certification so it has the 14500 stamp.
