One of my trades for the Tremor was a 2005 Titan I purchased new. Through the years I fixed what needed and made some minor mods. One thing I never did was any rust prevention. This summer I needed new front hubs. They were original as was most everything except the Borla exhaust and Volant CAI that I added year 1. The strut bolts were so rusty that I ended up using the next socket sizes down just to remove the fasteners. Had to remove the strut because a tap with my impact wrench extension knocked off the only piece of rust holding in the pressurized oil. Ended up having to remove the spindle to press out the wheel bearing. It was corroded in there real good. My question is not so much about protecting components I can treat from the underside, pretty sure I get how to do that and will do that. I want to know if there is something that can be done to protect everything behind the grill from the corrosive road spray.
I was hooking up a battery charger to the Tremor this AM and took a look around under the hood. There are spots of corrosion already on the alternators and I have not even driven on wet roads yet. This and all the under carriage corrosion is from the transport to the dealership.
So is there something other than moving south( sorry I knew there would be someone that would suggest it) or not driving it in the winter that can be done to avoid this corrosion? I know you can stay off the rear of people in front of you but there is plenty of mist from oncoming lanes as well. Can something be applied to the engine bay that will reduce this. I think it is already too late to clean your engine bay once you get home every time you drive in the slop.

I do like the south but I’m a Colorado native and would move back there before moving south.

I lived all across the Northern US....until I moved to TN and then NC......I won't be going back North....my 6 year old F150 looked brand new underneath.....I do not think you can stop the effects of winter.....just slow them down.

Back in the 70's in Buffalo...guys would buy Vans and trick them all out......then buy a Pinto or an old Jeep to drive Thanksgiving to April...That was the only solution!

Having also traded my Pilot for the Tremor, the truck is our only 4WD for when the weather demands traction. If it is just cold I’ll use the DD. Although I don’t care for what the salt does to it either there is a lot more plastic shielding on the undercarriage.

I actually considered that stuff for the undercarriage. I would also use it to store guns because it’s a type of cosmoline. Kinda concerned about spraying it on engine components.
  • Protects and preserves metal surfaces, electrical connections, engine components and fasteners, subject to salt spray and high humidity
Your call!

So, do you go through the 2 coat process followed by 12hr cure time after each coat? Does it stink when the engine heat starts cooking it?

I've only done it to one other vehicle and yes the smell is awful but it gets better quickly. I did follow the instructions. Most of my vehicles are 3-year term and I don't give a crap about, so they get nothing. I just got my Tremor this past week, but within the next 2 weeks I'll have it on my brother-in-law's lift and apply the treatment (4 cans, already received). I hope it's enough, this truck is HUGE!

I resemble this remark. Grew up in Buffalo, and would start looking for a serviceable beater in September... spent the next two months fixing it up, and keep it until April when I would get my nice car out and sell the winter jalopy
