Would be interesting if someone is knowledgeable on trucks (in reverse chronological order) with equivalent power to today’s Power Stroke. Assuming that the size of the truck gets bigger and bigger as they go back in time…

Are you asking what trucks have made 475+ horsepower or what was top of the line horsepower for various periods?

Edit: Also, including or excluding tier 1 suppliers with power adding devices (Toyota TRD supercharger comes to mind).

I'm also confused aside from the power stroke and current cummins. Nothing stock has ever made 1050ftlb torque. Unless we're talking about tractors?

Power, HP or torque - and yes, I’m referring to larger trucks like a Mac or Freightliner from the ‘70’s or whatever.

What a ride this one would be...

Well, if it were light duty trucks (up to class 5) I could probably help but I don’t know as much about class 8 or off road only power plants. For reference though, a current generation PACCAR MX13 (12.9L straight 6) only makes 510hp. They are generally more focused on durability.

I have a friend who is a CAT mechanic. Their 3516 is a monster. The ones he works on are usually used for fracking. 2100hp and 8275lb-ft of torque.

I know some people from college who work in engine development at CAT in the ship propulsion area. Talk about big engines. But I think what you’re getting at is see mass production engines going back in time so we get the power stoke, then some semi, and probably back to some tractor, I don’t think you’d have to go all that far to get into the piston engines in Boats and stuff. Go back 70 years and you had big tractors in production making 150 hp. I am not the expert for this topic but I agree it would be very interesting.
