This time next month I will be already on this hopefully epic trip that has for decades been preying on my mind.

Instead of going in a clockwise direction as originally planned, I have instead planned an anti clockwise trip. This means instead of starting out due west, we will be going north and then north west and then west.

I will update the trip via this thread for those who are interested.

The Plenty Hwy is the central part of the trip. It some 600kms long, almost all of it dirt and it’s renowned for the number of corrugations on it. As such, this will be the hardest part of the trip on the vehicle and caravan. Corrugations can destroy vehicles. Stories of people driving too fast and the whole front end of the vehicle torn off. So it’s slow and steady and hope like hell the grader has just been through.

Last major item I’m waiting on is the second spare tyre. Hopefully arriving next week.

Are you planning to send updates while on the trip?

Have fun and stay safe out there!

I'm envious. Would love a nice long road trip right about now.

Are you going to do any side/day trips or most stay on the main road?

will decide when we get there. It’s a very laid back sort of trip. I’ve left open the opportunity, for example, of exploring the McDonnell Ranges either side of Alice Springs. I’ve already been there before, so I’m not too fussed. But I’ll go with the flow.

It will be a very different trip to the Great Barrier Reef trip I’m doing a couple of weeks after this trip. On that trip, it’s definitely a case of going out and seeing the sights at every stop. Of course, having a dog with us will greatly limit how much of the GBR we will get to see. For the Plenty Hwy trip, it’s just a case of sit back, relax and take it all in. What a contrast it will be- desert and the vast outback, vs the largest reef in the world and tropical rain forest. Can’t wait.

Looking forward to seeing more of Australia through your travels. It is definitely on my bucket list to make it down there.
You can always come to Vegas and see Thunder From Down Under 🤪

Both sound like great trips. Hoping to make it back down there sometime soon to do the Great Barrier Reef.

Fire that starlink up and give us some livestream for a bit!! I have no idea if that's possible !

that’s great if you do. I’m just a bit confused about the bit about “down” there. I checked the map so I’m a bit confused. In any case, you’re welcome to come up here and check the place out. 😁

Live streaming is possible, but only when we unpack the dish and set it up. Which doesn’t take long normally.

I'm not going to point fingers... but I am going to suggest maybe one person on this forum has their map upside down.

Did you get the ROAM version of Starlink?

Unfortunately, there’s been a cover up and I suspect there’s a lot more than one, but like you I won’t point fingers either.
