I don't need a Platinum, but they look cool. I need about 3/4 of the things. Lariat ultimate, black, tremor (of course), power running boards are the big options. $70k. Platinum rings in at $75k for similar build. I'm not sold on adaptive cruise and the other wiz bang things. I like to drive, not have the truck slow me down. I'm really only leaning towards Platinum because resale might be better? It looks pretty cool with the mostly black with touch of chrome, but I actually prefer the all black out of that package.

Thoughts?

I preferred the loaded Lariat with power running boards, adaptive cruise, the works, over the Platinum because I really like the black out package. I didn’t think I would like/use the adaptive cruise, but frankly, after using it a bit on a 400 mile shake down run, I’ve found circumstances that revealed to me that it’s a really friggin cool option.

Hope this helps,

I went Loaded ultra Lariat with sport ( black) I priced out both trucks and did not want the chrome stuff. But the Plat is awesome. Pricing is not really that far apart if you check all the boxes and compare what the dealership is going to charge you. I was under invoice with both so the price spread was not much when you consider how much the total truck is costing you.

i went with loaded lariat because i didn't want the chrome but i am only missing a few of the options like adaptive CC, massage seats, and the moon roof. i say go Lariat i love mine but you could always go platinum and just black out everything if you want to.... but resale value on a superduty is going to be high regardless... and if you go diesel it will always be very high.... resale value of a tremor period is more then what i got mine for here in MD... there a Lariat Tremor 2020 going for 110k .... but dealer said mine with 9k mile they will buy it from me for 95k and i got mine for 69k a few months ago .... prices are crazy right now

There really isn't a right answer here. I have been going through this exact decision myself. I currently have an 18 Platnium and will be ordering a 21 Tremor. I will get mine loaded completely. Meaning almost every option I can get on a Lariat or Plat. The Plat has massaing seats which I rarely use so that's not a big deal. Other than that, a Lariat can have all the same options. Adaptive cruise is a must for me, I love it. The only option I am waffeling on is the moon roof. I like it (have it now) but I also had to have it repaired for a broken track right as it was coming out of warranty. It was a close one that would've cost me a lot had it happened two months later. The roof issue isn't all that uncommon (tracks, leaks, etc) although I do like having it and, if I wasn't ordering a truck, would take one with it still.

With almost identical options and adding the black package to the Lariat, you will be around $5k difference. If you want it a blacked out look, you will need to add the cost of vinyl/paint to do after you get it. That increases the price difference a bit more. The Plat would have higher resale but it looks as if the difference is proportionate to the difference in initial cost. Meaning, they will deprecaite almost identically but you started with the lower price for the Lariat to began with.

I have pretty much decided on a loaded Lariat just to avoid having to black things out, etc.

I went loaded lariat for the "sport appearance" package. I actually prefer the seats in the platinum. Full leather and softer. Dash panels are nicer as well. That reddish brown seat color is amazing in person. But I'm not digging the satin trim on the platinum and didn't want to spend the money after the fact getting everything painted black. Lariat ultimate is a pretty fancy truck though in it's own right. At the seats are harder wearing. The extra cash for the platinum is for massage seats, satin trim, power boards, and nicer leather

I priced all models out and ended up ordering a King Ranch with every option except Adaptive steering and the Chrome Package, so now I will have a two tone paint which is ok for me, I love the KR interior as I have had 2 prior, This is my Black Platinum I'm trading in, just wanted something different this time and the massage seats are worth every penny on those long trips towing and 500 plus mile journeys.

I as everyone went through these thoughts of which to go with. I went Platinum. The Platinum has much softer seats and massage. Which i didn't think it would really be that much better but after test driving both my wife and I LOVED the look and feel of the seats. To me they look bad ass. The steering wheel was softer and nicer also on the Platinum. The wood faux on every trim but the Platinum is brown looking wood which I didn't care for. On the Platty its a nice Black Faux. I'm not into chrome as much as the Black out which is super bad ass BUT the Platty is actually Stainless. Not as shinny as Chrome. I myself dont like total black out side badges saying F250 or F350. To me it needs a bit of pop saying the trim and 250 or 350. Lastly I like that Platinum tailgate badge which really pops with most paint skeems But not so much with the Silver paint I chose. The Badge gets lost with the Silver Paint.
That being said to each their own. But the Plattinum is the King of the Tremors IMHO. You can't go wrong with XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, or the Platinum. It's a TREMOR. Its all what each person thinks in the Trim. More Lariats than any other Trim I believe. They should offer that Blacked Out package in all trim levels. Theyd sell more higher trims one would think. Good Luck. Post Pics of your sweet Beast when you get her. ? ? ?

Adaptive cruise is great, Adaptive steering not great in my opinion, had it on 4 trucks now, loose goosey at high speed towing and 0 feedback offroad, plus lots of fault warnings with severe offroad use. Opinions may very, but his is my take on Adaptive Steering

Not sure I understand your prices. Please point me in the direction of a Platinum Tremor for 75K.

Platinum model here and love it!! But honestly either way you are getting a great truck!

Yes, I'm pricing 7.3's on the ford build it. I don't need massaging seats (I don't think). Softer leather would be nice. Glass roof is still an option on top, so I'll skip that. Does the Plat force the fancy electric assist steering? I don't want that either.

I'm not buying until 2022/23 because I'm stuck in Italy right now. But I'm going to order a new one through the military buying program here. Just planning my build at this point. I'm assuming the 12" center screen will come to superduty next year.

I'm a diesel fan, had a tuned 7.3 in a '03 and then a gutless 5.4 in a 2005. I think the 7.3 will be okay though- pretty much the power of my old 7.3PSD without the complications, cost, etc etc. I don't tow a whole lot, and do lots of short trips and don't commute (I'll be retired and working from home), so diesel doesn't make sense in my case.

I bought a ‘20 King Ranch only because it was on the lot, but ordered a Platinum ‘21.

As much as I like the black trim of the Lariat, the light headliner took the Lariat out of the running. The light headliner with dark everything else looks weird. Platinum is the only trim that got me black.

I love my platinum. I got it because it was coming into the lot when I was looking for one. I probably would’ve been happy with a fully loaded lariat too. Now, in hindsight, I will say that those Platinum seats are indeed softer and more comfortable than others. I also thought massage seats are a complete rip off and waste but both me and my wife now use them almost all the time.

the perfect tremor to me would be the platinum seats, in king ranch design, with the blackout lariat package.

Holy cow, "planning a build" 2 or 3 years out???? Wow, love your enthusiasm but a lot can change two or three model years from now. I would say pump the brakes tiger, you got time !! LOL

Don't forget the Platty has a slightly nicer interior and massaging seats. I was facing this dilemma too, in fact, I posted a similar thread a couple months ago. Ultimately I ordered the Platinum. I also would prefer the all blacked out look of a Lariat but I wanted the extra goodies in the Platinum. There's nothing stopping me from taking it to a body shop and having the grill and other chrome bits blacked out later.

All that driver assist shit can be shut off.

My wife's VW has adaptive steering and lane keep assist and all that crap and I personally hate it and shut if off when I drive her car, but I still ordered it all in my Platty Tremor. Go figure.

The adaptive cruise though is AWESOME. I'm not a huge cruise control guy in general, but on really long freeway trips I will use it and it's completely set it and forget it. cars in front of you slow or speed up and the car just figures it out. It's actually a cool feature.

FYI, unless the dealer has some kind of override, you can't get the power running boards on the Platinum. At least every time I try to build one, adding the power running boards forces the removal of the tremor package. I don't have that issue when building a Lariat.
