Parasite Draw

UPDATE #2. Dealership dropped off truck yesterday. I moved it from one side of the driveway to the other. Went out this morning and the battery is dead. I call dealership and they say their main electrical guy is out today and they can take a look at it on Monday. Ford roadside assistance did come and tow it from my driveway to the dealership. Hoping that maybe because everything is dead they can figure out the cause. If not I am not sure what to do other than maybe see about a buyback or trade it in

Had a similar issue about a year ago with my F250. Dealer finally found that the APIM was bad. It was trying to phone home for updates and would not turn itself off. It was replaced and I have not had an issue since, knock on wood….

I hope it is something like that. I may call and mention it to them on Monday. I know my truck was one of those built that does not get OTA updates (I.e. no full screen car play or anything )

Damn. Reading these threads make me a neurotic mess! I have a low mileage 22 that I don’t drive as often as I should and now I’ll be out there firing her up every day or sticking batteries and trickle chargers 🥴😂

Surprised that Milfuckee doesn't have such a product yet, world would be complete if so.
I keep the NOCO in the back of the truck (with access) so I can use it in an emergency.

If Milwaukee made something like this, it would be handy. This is not for jumping a vehicle, but it supplies 12V and variable out for other subjects. It would unlock the vehicle. (The NOCO is much more compact)

I used a Milwaukee battery base (clone) from Amazon, added a 12V regulator on the back, put a variable regulator on the inside, and loaded it with all of the common sockets and voltmeter. (One variable socket out, banana jacks) Pretty handy on the bench and camping as well.

If it's because of an excess current draw, they should be able to locate that very easily. The battery should not go completely dead ever. There are protection circuits to prevent it unless, as @andy18_00 pointed out, a bad computer of sorts.

Yeah the battery was 100% dead. The tow truck driver and I had to figure out how to put the truck in neutral with no power.

Amazing work!

This sounds like a potentially very promising potential solution. Whether it's the cause or not, you may want to ask them to fully update all your software there at the shop anyway once the problem is solved since the system hasn't worked right.

I feel your pain... Going through a similar issue on our 23 Escape. We keep a Halo jump-pack in the vehicle at all times now. Dealer is looking at it Tuesday.

So just how did you do this? I am looking at the 2024 owners manual and can't find a procedure for this other than jumping the battery. Is that what you did?

You have to remove the rubber around the gear shifter and then you will see a black connector. If you feel under the connector there is a circular type washer thing and you have to pull it out and move the shifter

Yeah dealer is going to relook at it on Monday. I have a jump pack I can put in the truck but I was suppose to drive it from Missouri to New Jersey middle of the week for work and don’t know if I trust it now even if the dealer “fixes” it.

UPDATE #2

Called the dealer this afternoon to check on the status. They said they were “running some tests”. I asked if these were different tests than they ran last week when it was in and the service advisor said he did not know.

Update #4.
Dealer had the truck in the shop since Monday. I called yesterday and the service advisor said they now have a Ford Engineer working with them to try and figure out the problem and they are having to take a bunch of stuff apart. All I know is that my Ford pass now shows an update and also the vehicle health now has three issues. 1 dealing with the powertrain reduced power and 2 dealing with the airbag system. Hope it hear something next week as I need my truck for work the week after this upcoming one.

Well, hopefully the engineer figures it out. This is always frustrating for me when a (what seems to be) an easy test, is made difficult by a service department.

For a battery to go completely dead overnight, there's only a couple things that could cause it. Hopefully they are looking at "heavy draw" circuits and not some computer glitch. (Starter solenoid or motor?)
